View Full Version : What exactly is a convoy?

Apparently, the game considers a convoy to be any group of 3 or more ships in which merchants outnumber warships. I got a report from the BdU earlier about a small enemy convoy, raced to intercept, only to discover a coastal merchant leading a C2 leading a small merchant. That was it, three ships. And yes, I'm sure that was actually it. I zoomed back out on the nav map, and once I got to a certain point the three individual icons were replaced by a single icon with the notation "Small Convoy". Strange.

if you look in your config files and go to contacts, you can see what the game considers single, small, medium and large. I'll go look real fast and tell you.

Single Contact Min Size=1
Small Contact Min Size=3
Medium Contact Min Size=7
Large Contact Min Size=13

Well, in the movie it was just 3 trucks at first, but that was still a convoy.

Yup, you are correct. I believe it was: Rubber Duck, Pig Pen, and the other dude I can't rememeber- oh yeah and the hot chick in the XKE who became the Duck's chick. One bar fight with Dirty Lyle and his cohorts, and they were soon on the run to Mexico. The biggest Convoy the world has ever scene soon formed. Many police tried to stop them, but they all failed. They called tanks in at the end, and in a gut wrenching scene Rubber Duck goes head-to-head with them on the bridge... oh man what a movie for a young kid to watch. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Yeah, a "convoy" is 3 or more sailing in a group, escourted or no.

I happened upon two sailing together (Patrol 11) and no convoy message given... one poped up and then the other WITH it.

I sunk 'em both (C2 and Small Merchant).

NOT a "convoy".

MY question is, when does it become a Med. or Large "convoy?" ... how many "Civ. ships" does it take to sink the med. and large convoy center of a convoy-pop??

*fish one.. fish two... fish three..

Three??? nope.. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif LOL

The one Dr. Trespasser posted are the size increments. It's not a small anymore when it hits 7, and becomes a large at 13. That includes escorts. I saw a large convoy once that had 12 merchants and one escort. I also once turned a large enemy convoy (20 merchants and one escort) into a small neutral convoy, by sinking the escort and the 15 British merchants out of it, leaving only the 5 American ships.

I knew the size increments already, but I thought the 3 minimum was really for reductions due to casualties. Someone else posted that he encountered a "Task Force" report, and after intercepting it, discovered it was also a mix of warships and merchants. The 3-ship convoy I encountered was right off Loch Ewe, leaving England heading north, so I know it wasn't a remnant after an encounter with Luftwaffe planes or Kriegsmarine commerce raiders.

Hehe nice.

I've wiped out entire convoys by myself on a good weather day. I'm sure that had to *annoy* those brits. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

Its a large convoy when you use up all your torpedoes and shells and half the boats still remain. Its a small convoy when you do the same and no ships remain. A medium convoy has a few coastal merchants left after expending all ammunuition but nothing of much interest.

Like my definition?

So it looks like I ran into a large SW of Ireland.

Has anyone seen convoys coming together? I assume some amount of gathering has to take place. Now a gathering convoy, there's a fat target. Shoot now or wait for his friends to arrive?
