Is there any way to play this game online?

I play online everyday in UBI. It is awesome and works flawlessly. Be more specific about your problem.

99% of people play through hyperlobby. http://hyperfighter.jinak.cz/ when hyperlobby is running 900+ people ubi is running 50-100 if they are lucky

On the main page there is a button on the right that says "Play Online". When I click on it it always says server updating.

Don't bother with the Ubi.com online system.
Go download teh Hyperlobby online client, from the link posted by BlueDevil, and come play with the rest of us.
90+% of the online community is in Hyperlobby and we use it for this game for over six years.

Here are two resources (right here in the Ubi forums) that will answer all your questions about getting online with Hyperlobby and what to expect when you do get online:

Nugget's Guide - http://forums.ubi.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/23110283/m/9121094645

Newbie's Guide to IL2 Online Dogfighting - http://forums.ubi.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/23110283/m/2111070776

These should help answer all of your questions.

Cheers,
Jay

The ubi.com lobby is anything but awesome.

All very interesting. But, it doesn't answer my question. Why doesn't the button work? Am I doing something wrong? Is there a trick to it? Is there really a UBI lobby?

This is all I ever get...

"
The page you tried to access was not found. It is possible that the page has moved or that you entered an incorrect URL.

ubi.com may also be temporarily unavailable due to routine server maintenance. Please check back later."

The page said that that UBI might be down for server maintenance. So I waited. That is why the dates are spread out. Do I need to put the CD in to access the UBI servers?

I do have the ubi.com program and just ran it and it works fine. I can't remember if it came with the game, or if I downloaded it somewhere. Most (99%) online players don't use it, so they (like me) probably can't answer your question. As Jaws said, there are tons of people using Hyperlobby and it works fine.

Snack

PS: Maybe your firewall is stopping ubi.com from connecting?

This is one of the many reasons most don't use Ubi.com, it just doesn't work right most of the time. Trust me, save yourself the trouble of trying to get ubi.com working and download hyperlobby.

But relevant. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif About the time of this thread you could still log on to a UBI server and randomly find Oleg himself zooming about, usually in a G6AS at the time.

I see it but scroll all the way to the very last sentence on the page, it reads:

Special thanks to Jiri Fojtasek for years of tireless efforts making his Hyperlobby client the Virtual Home of IL-2 community online. ROFL!
