flyable pidgeons and peregrine falcons in the battle of britain, they played a very important part. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/784.gif

Proofs that they saw combat oleg, unlike your lerche.

So you get the FM right Oleg, Pigeons are faster accelerating and in level speed and have a tighter turning circle.

Peregrines have a faster dive speed, climb better and have big huge talons to whack pidgeons with.

Dont pork the pigeon like you did to the fw190.

Pigeons should also attract Anti Aircraft fire in the form of 12 bore shotguns and air rifles.<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

The metaphor isn???t so bad. When I fly the spit and attack some Me-109: s of the same vintage. I feel like a peregrine falcon attacking a swarm of pigeons.

In a game where any animal targets or gore of any kind is taboo, I highly doubt there'll ever be bird strikes.

Besides, they're much nicer just to look at.

Bird strikes were apparently quite an issue for some of the early low-level Mosquito missions. The planes would fly line astern at just above tree top level, the issue being that the first plane might scare birds at dawn from the trees and the following planes risked flying into them. Some effort was made to adjust formations to reduce the problem a bit, but there was no total solution as flying line abreast wasn't always good attack formation.

Len Deighton in his excellent novel, BOMBER, depicts the effects of a collision between a gull and the windscreen and the hapless pilot of a Ju 88R---in graphic detail. Result, instant lobotomy followed by crash. In one of the early incarnations of this sim I sometimes observed flurries of tiny whitish gray dots off in the distance while I flew at night. I wondered if this was supposed to represent night flying birds.

'Tis a funny old thing, but I was just thinking about this the other day.....MMMmmm...?

Now that we know that S.O.W. will contain (apprently, Real weather) Well done for that.
I was thinking? How about.... Flocks of Starlings, The odd Homing Pidgeon/pidgin. As well as Bug Splats.(I already have them as some cornlice have invaded the space between my inner and outer screens). Thus looking like Enemy in the distance. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-sad.gif

Many years ago when I collected WW2 militaria a friend of mine found (not sure where he got it from now) a WW2 US Army-issue carrier pigeon carrying vest - an olive drab mesh contraption to hold a pigeon in with its wings folded. We used to find some bizzare and unusual stuff tucked away in all sorts of unlikely places, like a shaving set made in Germany shortly after WW1 for the US Army we found in a junk shop, presumably made for the brief post-WW1 occupation of parts of Germany by the USA.

No birdstrikes in this sim, they're all non-union I think. <b style="color:black;background-color:#a0ffff">Ubi[/b] prefers to deal with them through arbitration via an impartial third body.<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

At the museum where I work, there's an ornithologist working with bird strikes. Nasty things, always make quite a mess. I'm very happy I don't have to face the possibility of a bird hitting my propeller and ruin the mission.<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

In one of my very first posts I asked about depicting birds in flight sims. It doesn`t have to anything ultra detailed, but just there. I would also accept rare bird strikes because it did happen.

Think about it. Where did the aircraft come from? What began it all?

It first began when man looked at the simple bird flying above him thousands of years ago and he wished to do the same.

I`ve seen cows, sheep and deer in sims, but birds? Nothing. IMHO the bird is the most unthanked creature in flight sims. Pretty bad in my view and I was pleasantly surprised when I read that Oleg did originally want to include them.

Edit:

I just remembered there is ONE sim where birds are shown briefly: BOBWov shows seagulls flying up when passing low over ships in the Channel, but that`s it.<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

Yes but not while in flight. They have to land deposit their "load" and then take off again.
Imagine if b17s had to do the same!<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

I can see it now, out of the dawn's mist....swooping majestically in comes a Squadron of Eagles, carrying their load of recently caught Rabbits. The leader shouts, incoming Sparrowhawks, two 'O'Clock High!

Roger....Rabbits away, and the rabbits slowly plummet to earth and land directly on the target of Farmer McGregor's Garden, quickly eating through the enemy supply line of carrots.

Then in swoop the P(igeon)47's to protect the Eagles on their flight home....yes I can see it now.........<div class="ev_tpc_signature">
