View Full Version : Random effects in SH3?

I don't mean random like people are probably thinking.

History is full of examples of <small scale> random actions or events changing the course of battles or what have you. Relevant to SH3 fans would be things like the port lookout on HM destroyer leaning down to clean the glasses, right when there was a flash of moonlight on the conning tower... had he just kept looking up moon for a second longer...

So what I am getting at - will SH3 simulate a certain random factor? So two missions run back to back with identical tactics could turn out different... not because there are different ships but because, for example, the 'detection radius' is not fixed for the AI escorts (that is for a given set of conditions), so you might get away with a thin man on the surface 3 times but then the fourth..... starshells and the rising whine of high speed turbines....

Anyhow just wondering if anyone has heard or asked.

All good simulations include randomizers for spotting, etc. I would certainly hope this simulation includes such a feature, but I don't know for sure.

It would be very annoying if they made a periscope automatically spotted after a certain time period. For one thing it would be unrealistic, and for another it would be too easy, once you knew the spotting time, to cheat it by lowering the scope just before the time period was up, and then raising it again.
