I was reading a while back on whether CFS2 was dead on not. My answer to that is that its definitely not dead. That Simulator is alive and kicking very well. There is no need to degrade it just to bring Pacific Fighter up. Pacific Fighter fighter is a great Simulator on its own and there is no need to put one down to bring the other one up. We should respect CFS2 and its amature developers. I think they both are great Air Combat Simulators. CFS2 has been greatly enhanced and improve throught the years by a very dedicated group of people. By now it has evolved into a great Combat Simulator. We should not treat it as a rival but as a Sister World war two Simulator. It will only increase our enjoyment in the genre that we enjoy so much.I personaly enjoy them both and you know my opinion. They are both different and both great Simulators. CFS2 has many Missions and Campaigns you can add to it . All types of upgrades that you can install as you desire them. A fantastic Mission Builder. A world map that you can upgrade with new textures. You can create Missions for both the Pacific and European Theater as you desire through the Mission Builder. Dynamic Campaings are also available. Hundreds of planes plus a great community.
It also has its own strength and weakness. So does Picific Fighter has its own Strength and weankness as well.
I love them both. I intent to use them both to increase my enjoyment in Simulating WW2 combat Flying.
I respect Oleg because I am under the impression that he and his group really care about our Hobby.
And I hope that if you own both games. Enjoy them as I have.
P.S. if you own CFS2 I recommend that you go to Google. Search for CFS2 Web sites and get all thier upgrades and you will see what I mean.
Good luck and good Hunting.

Best of CFS2 (and all FS series) is the weather system, just awesome. Other nice point is the HUGE maps. All rest goes for PF http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif.

Least PF keeps the hackers and cheaters out by keeping their planes locked and you cant add to them. I quickly got so tired of guys flying unrealistic aircraft ones that hit like A10's and manuver like F22's. It sent me running back to WW2F until IL2 came out. CFS2 was a good concept ruined by a developer with no clue or care. I love the fact that Oleg does truly care about his product and the community.

Seriously, CFS 2 was great for its time and I'm sure many of us enjiyed it enormously. I know I did.

Hi , i played cfs2 for a few years absolutely enjoyed it I had a large collection of 3rd party add-ons and started to pick up a few kills, carrier landings were a blast ,but using carrier landings as an example it doesn’t come close to the immersion of pf ,with perfect mode on and decent frame rates, pf is the next generation of sim , I think theres a few die hards still playing cfs1 on the zone haven’t looked how full the cfs2 rooms are? haven’t ventured to the zone for a few years may take a quick look ,still have it lying around some where, dont think ill go back to it though im spoilt with pf http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Cut it out already.

I had Microsoft's CFS series and enjoyed 2 the best. It was out before the original Il2 and I liked it better even when I had Il2 for a few months. I had a ton of add-ons as well as the fix for the "roll-bug," and the 1% a/c were a good free source for quality aftermarket work. After over a year I began to tire of it and appreciate Il2's feel as a higher quality sim (just my opinion). To be honest I'll probably never play it again because overall FB, and now PF are a higher level of sophistication. But its not beyond my understanding why you can still enjoy it. It is a classic.

Just my own opinion, but there was not one thing about CFS2 that I thought was 'good'. It had many apsects that completely ruined it for me (read 'bad').

P.S. I shouldn't say that, there was One 'good' thing about it, and that was all the people who were willing to bust there @$$ to try and make it decent. Honestly I wish they would have focused there efforts on something that was worth it (my opinion only!), but I alwayse appreciate effort, even if it doesn't benifit me personally.

Sorry,but after using Il-2 for awhile,I got an itching to fly a Corsair so I re-installed CFS2.
I un-installed it a couple of hours later...
Now with PF,I'm one happy fanboy. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_razz.gif

MiamiEagle,

Ahem. Not for nothing(or maybe it will be for nothing if this falls on deaf ears), but I think you should use a spell checker.

definely

Picific

enhense

Campaings

These are just a few expamples of spelling that I find deplorable. Is it the most important thing in the world? NO! But sorry, I have a little bit of a pet peeve about such things so I felt I had to say something. I can understand a typo or two.. maybe even three, but this verges on being awful.

Not once, but twice, you spelled "Pacific Fighters" as "Picific Fighter". If you are really concerned about 'Pacific Fighters vs. CFS2', I think we know where you stand with your spelling it as "Picific Fighter".

Since this is the "Pacific Fighters" forum and you can't even manage to spell it correctly I have to agree with BaldieJr, cut it out already.

MiamiEagle: I usually try to avoid posting in a negative tone, but as I said, I have a pet peeve about spelling and when reading this I just felt I had to stick my neck out. I make typos myself and they are evident. But in this case it's pretty obvious to me that you either don't mind embarrassing yourself, need to finish grammar school, or you need to learn to use a spell checker.

I said before that CFS3 was my first CFS flight sim. Well, I lied slightly, a while ago before it I tried CFS2 out of mild curiosity.

I was impressed by the graphics of the aircraft, but was put off by the linearity of the missions, basically do it over and over again like a fly going up a window pane until dead. I have a big thing about sims that do not have something like a dynamic campaign; You fail, but live, the war moves on, it doesn`t repeat the EXACT SAME MISSION ad infinitum. Hated the stupid Radar thing as well, so glad EAW and IL2 stayed away from it. Only lasted 2 days.

Anyway, one thing that still stays in my mind `bout it was the cartoon comic style sequences between missions - it was a nice touch.

Don't you just love grammar nazis?

I could read it despite all the spelling errors.
Oh, as long as the first and last letters are right, what comes between doesn't matter.

I don't know what's worse. Whining that someone's favorite plane just got nerfed. Or whining about spelling mistakes.

Ok, sorry if I offended some people trying pointing out spelling problems. And yeah, I know I was a little harsh. And I made kind of an assumption. MiamiEagle is his name here. So I assumed he is from Miami! As in Miami, Florida USA. I could read it too. But looking at that atrocious spelling hurt my brain. Lol.

Like i said, I hardly ever make negative posts. But that spelling just got to me. I'll make a promise too. I won't ever complain on here about anybodys spelling problems again. Ok spelling liberals? Haha.

And sorry MiamiEagle for being hard on you. But I do hope you learn to spell. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

OTS I accept your criticism . You are right. My spelling was real bad and I apologize for it. I was in a hurry when I wrote this post. To make matters worst I am a terrible Typist. Thank you for your criticism. It will only encourage me to improve on my writing skills.
Thank you to all those who came to my defence.

The only thing that bother me is the way you came about it. It gave me the impresion that you have a superiority complex.

I thought that we had corrected that trend of thought in the forties.

I guess I was wrong.

God bless you anyway

Idk why and how people can compare apples to oranges; CFs2 is a much, much older program, and PF is the "new hotness"

in its time CFS2 was great, things were wrong about it but i still had fun with it. time moved on, better sims came out, and i moved on. Still didnt mean that i, didnt have fun with it.

PF is great, im having a ton of fun with it, but in time, it too will be an old program and we will have somethng new to play with. Till then ill just enjoy it and not compare it to something that cant be compared to, cause circumstances are different.

I have been flying sims for 10 years. The only true interactive cockpit is CFS2. Nice to have a cockpit that makes you feel like you are in control, ie fuel dump, switches for magenetos and etc. In addition all of the inovative add ons by a hard core group of devotee's is great. However, I feel that Oleg and crew really care about our business, and will contine to improve their games. It is nice to know that your opinion counts. Semper FI...Patriot

Yep, I have to agree with you Patriot, cfs2 is an old game and had a many things that are still not in PF or better then it. Real world navigation - not in PF, like you said interactive cockpit, not in PF and the sound on cfs2 - is still WAY above what we have in PF.
But with all that said, PF is still a much better sim (IMO). Better FM, way better graphics, AC models are top notch and many other things to long to cover here.

Bottom line - both have strong points and weak points - fly the one you like more, personally I like PF more and will continue to fly it, and just hope for improvements in the areas it needs them. (like more flyable AC)

Aaron_GT

" and the sound on cfs2 - is still WAY above what we have in PF."

I think the sound in PF is better than CFS2, not least because there seem to be bugs in the sound of CFS2 that cause all sorts of strange noises on my soundcard (ditto CFS3) that I never get on IL2, SDOE, etc.

I must see if I can get EAW working again. It tends to interact badly with my stick and rudder set up (rudder on gameport) and my gameport to USB adapter tends to be unreliable.

11-23-2004, 01:38 PM
I agree absolutely with those who feel that we should not mock or knock CFS2. In its time it was a fine sim. PF is the next generation so there would be something very very wrong if it were not better.

Having said that, as other posts assert, CFS2 had some things that PF still does not. Realistic and immersive sound FE; Player upgradable components (I realize this bugs online players, but for those of us who play offline, the ability to download a zillion freeware mods is just Christmas every day): Maps which covered the entire region - and in fact the ENTIRE WORLD if you were willing to download some higher res texture and 3D mesh upgrades. The list goes on.

It was a fine sim and to be honest if MS ever decided to upgrade the engine to take advantage of todays video graphic capabilities it would almost certainly give PF a run for its money.

When I wrote this Post my intentions were not to promote Microsoft products or degrade Pacific Fighter. My intention was and still is to give credit to all those independent develpers who love WW2 combat flying and thru their hard work and Talent have made CFS2 a great simulator.
This does not mean I am not happy with the Pacific Fighter program. I am estatic that some one has step in and developed a simulator dedicated to the Pacific theater of war.
Do you Guys realize that before Pacific Fighter was develope their was only one Simulator soley dedicated to the Pacific thearter.
I thought that was wrong . I am very happy that Oleg and his team step in and decided to develope one for us. It was way over due. I just hope they give it the same dedication that they had with the Eastern Front.
I love his product so far and I hope he can finnish what he has started already.
Thank you Oleg and team members
