View Full Version : Fighter missions for fighter careers please!!!

So there I was, happily engaged in a Dgen Fighter campaign in Lvov, and then around Moscow, and my unit get the FW-190 Antons.

Kewl! I thought, and happily started practicing my QMBs to get proficient. And all is well, until we get new A-5s and are sent to the Kursk map in July, 1943.

Now, ALL my missions are ground attack missions, while another unit 'protects' us from the occasional pair of Las or Yaks that show up.

WTF? One of the greatest air and land battles in human history, and I'm flying mudmover missions with next to no aerial opposition?

I'm quite sure that I selected a Fighter career, and while I know that some Russians are convinced that the FW 190 was 'just' a ground attack plane, it was also used quite effectively in the air to air role against the VVS. So why am I stuck with being a bomb truck? I don't remember peeing in anyone's cornflakes...

I know that some people like doing that sort of mission again and again, but I'm simply not one of them, and frankly, this bait and switch job has me pretty ticked off.

Is there some way to 'fool' the Dgen into letting me be a real fighter pilot again? It's getting far too complicated to edit each mission without spoiling the surprises. I'm about to just start just beginning the mission, hitting Escape and applying it until I get something worthwhile to do.

It's to simulate the boredom of day to day life in the military and being assigned the dirty work all of the time. Evidently, you did piss in somebody's cornflakes, or you didn't kiss the right ***.

Look at me (previous fiction I posted). I was a P-38 ace and got kicked to the sidelines for crash landing too much. They made me the Mess Officer!!!

Show up at your next briefing and shout out "Hitler Sucks". This will solve all of your problems, I'm sure. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

I feel your pain! Years ago when BOE first came out, I was totally psyched to fly the P-38 campaign. What a complete boring disaster! Like you, I ended up as a bomb truck at least 80% of the time. Interestingly, when I flew the BOE P-47 campaign, most of the missions were A2A. Go figure http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/blink.gif. So far the best campaigns I've flown in this sim have been static (currently flying Rebirth of Honor and Wings Over Waves-liking both very much).

With Lowengrin's DCG (Dynamic Campaign Generator, which can replace the DGEN in-game) you can redefine the aircraft type for the aircraft of your choice, such as the FW-190 A. It's probably designated a fighterbomber - well with a menu click you can redefine it to a fighter, and subsequent generated missions will reflect this change.

Sorry I can't be more specific, I'm not sitting at my pc, and it's been awhile since I changed my DCG settings.

Can I also add some variables on the config file for shortening the lenght of the dynamic campaigns, or raising/lowering the AI?

Some Russians? The whole lot of them including Oleg's team. No wonder the Anton's Kommandogerat is as if for a F ground attack variant.

This disapointing event happened to me to. Only with Lowengrin's DCG could I get back on track for a figher Anton campaign. Bless him and Aces High for his IL2 MAT realistic markings program.

Select a different anton squadron http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

We are here to rescue you http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif
Check this out:

<pre class="ip-ubbcode-code-pre">

...should be in your classesDeC.dat within DGen folder. That is if you play German Fighter Center campaign, judging by your involvement in Kursk, I think I'm right.

Now you wonder how does it works?
Simply this file tells DGen.exe to take into account your wishes - e.g. no more any missions but fighter missions for you! http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Here is the file:

Simply put classesDeC.dat into your DGen. If it is some another campaign in question just rename the file properly and you wont get ground pounding missions while flying FW-190 http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif.
You'll notice that there are already several "classes.dat" files within DGen folder... they are all for the same purpose - to tell DGen what kind of missions we should fly in our crates.

Did it. Appears to work. Escorting instead of being escorted.

You can also fly ground attack and fighter missions if you use Light instead of Fighter.

I'm glad I learned how to fiddle with the dgen, managed to expand the BoE P-38 campaign and its handy knowing how to edit skins, pilot skill and aircraft type aswell.
