I have not seen any word on whether the problem of the white shadows appearing in PF/FB merged has been solved or will be in the future.

Can someone from the devel. team please comment on this? It might help people decide on whether to buy this card or not.

Too late for me as I have the MSI 6600GT AGP card. I sure hope this gets repaired. It is a bug only evident when PF is applied. FB does not
have the problem.

~S~ I think there are a few of us hoping this one gets fixed....maybe we can ..bump.. it to the top!

Hi. Is the problem with white shadows apearing on all types of video card drivers?
Have you tried to use other drivers?
I've had white shadows only on pacific maps - palms only had white shadows but the other kinds of trees had normal - black ones.

I have tried at least 7 different drivers, every driver has had the same result. For me, it isn't just the Pacific maps, I have them in the blackdeath track also.

Its definately a card problem...not sure if the nVidia needs to fix it driver side or Maddox needs to fix it game side.

With the 6600s being popular, surely they are looking into it.

Does it only happen on Perfect or on all settings? What does stencil buffer on and off give you. What about polygon stipple? These are all shadow related...

In reading on some hardware forums, this is a card issue, hopefully nvidia can come up with a driver that will help.

Hi Ice, I've tried several different settings, can't remember what they were now, but after reading this over at SimHq
http://www.simhq.com/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=127;t=000203#000000
It seems that Oleg is aware of it. So just keeping my fingers crossed.
Also, Hi ednew, could you post the urls where you saw that the white shadows are a product of the videocard? Thanks

Hi mech, it was a hardware forum, but I can't remember which one, I'll keep trying. It was not about IL2 specific, and mainly it was about using on pcixpress in sli. Sorry I should of been more specific.

Hey Ed....no problem...I'm over at guru3d's everyday...there are alot of driver issues with the 6 series cards...either pci or agp..so I'm always looking for that perfect driver...but I really think this one (white shadows) is in the game. Well hopefully the patch may address that also!

Hello,

I read IceFire's suggestions and tried PF/FBm on Excellent instead of Perfect and the shadows are ok. Polygon stipple and Stencil Buffer have no effect on fixing the shadows when running on Perfect however.

Thanks for everyone contributing to the thread. Hopefully Oleg and crew can fix it in-game or can lobby NVidia to attend to it in their drivers.

As I bought the card to run in perfect I suppose it's shadows off for me now.

Cheers all.

If you change your resolution, its possible that you don't have the white shadows because, sometimes when you switch res. especially if color depth is changed, the hardware shaders are turned off....Thats where the problem lies, if you turn off hardware shaders, you don't have white shadows, but you also have crappy water. So, I guess for now its pick what annoys you less.

I going to buy 6600 GT - at now i have it for testing. In perfect settings shadows are white. These problem is only in FB/PF (3.04 ver) i dont see it in other games. I wonder if 1C know these problem and it will be fixed soon?

Hi Kwiatos....as far as I understand Oleg is aware of the problem. It doesn't matter what settings your in...your still going to have white shadows if your hardware shader is enabled.

any news on that, maybe fixed in 4.0 ?
As there are many 6600 GT users, it would be nice to have some information, maybe from Oleg personally
Hopefully,

I have the latest official drivers and the bug is there. Tree shadows are alright but atleast shadows of buildings are pure white. Perceived in perfect mode.

Solution: turn shadows off...

OldMan - what model of 6600GT do you have ( ie. manufacturer ) and what driver versions are those ?

I ask as I was thinking of a 6600GT as a "cheap" upgrade for my current vid card, but am now worried since I was hoping to see Perfect for the first time.

Cheers

I have an eVGA 6600GT at home and a NVIDIA sample 6800 at work.. both at 71.84

Both have the same image quality.. no problems in either of them.

I've got the PNY 6600GT with driver version 71.84 and I've got white shadows also.

Hopefully some one will figure this out.

Is that AGP or PCI-E card? Shouldn't matter I think but just curious. Mine is MSI NX6600GT AGP.

hy,
i got a SPARKLE 6600GT http://www.sparkle.com.tw/image/product/nvidia/SPAG43GDH.gif with the last official driver 71.84 and got the same problem but only in perfect mode not in excellent! (had the same pb with the 2 old drivers 66.93 and 66.?? ) BUT i play only in OpenGl, didn't try it yet with Dx...someone did? http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/blink.gif

Maybe is because I have tons of othe development stuff installed. Maybe the Cg version ? Think PF uses CG.. but I may be wrong.. I don't remember.

The card is a PCI-E one... and I never saw that bug here.

I have also a 6600GT AGP and now 71.89.
Shadows are white only for cars and buildings. Tanks, planes, ships, trees, all with black shadows.
So I think its a Il-2 Problem. Shadows are different, because of the patchwork of FB,AEP,PF?
Other games are not affected.
I hope Oleg/Nvidia can fix this with the next patch.

Sometimes not bad to see which vehicles are tanks and which are cars. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

HI I have been having this problem as well after "upgrading" to a 6600GT card. After much fiddleing I have found the problem only happens when you have "HardwareShaders=1" in the config file. So if you can put up with poor water settings everything is fine. I have maximum everything set(AA 8xS, Aniso 16x,HQ, Vsinc on, all configs set to Maximum) All shadows OK but water is poor what ever you set1-3 (Poor but ok above 6000ft http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif) This is ok for "land " campaigns. If playing PF I set HardwareShaders=1, enjoy water=3 and turn off shadows. Its a compramise but it seems to work OK for now (Hint Hint Pls Fixhttp://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif)

With Hardwareshaders=0 not only water is different. Also your range of vision is reduced and other things.
And after buying a 6600GT I don`t want to play with settings a FX 5200 can handle. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_confused.gif

I can't see any other effcts like less range of vision or other "downgrades". If I can work out how to post a pic i'll show you what I get with settings (Bit new to all this forum stuff http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_confused.gif)

Range of vision is reduced, not in the case of targets, but you see much less landscape.

Ahhhh. Now I see what you mean. I flew near some mountains and the **** things were jumping around like frogs/changing shape as I got closer. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/53.gif Have reinstated Hardwareshaders=1 and disabled shadows completely. This will have to do untill a fix.

Disable shadows complete is not a really good idea.
Sometimes if a enemy fly low, you cannot see him, because of his cover skin. But often you see his shadow! http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif
