View Full Version : IL2 FB SO SLOW?

Hi,

Just started playing IL2 FB after really enjoying IL2 on my old slow computer.

IL2 FB seems to run MUCH more slowly than IL2 and takes three minutes to load a mission, apply a mission etc.

PC is 2.6GHz Pentium 4 running XP Home. NVidia Ge Force FX5200 graphics card. 512 MB RAM. Any thoughts as to why it should load and run so much slower than IL2 and will it stop me enjoying Pacific Fighters if I go and buy it?

TIA

I'm playing merged FB/PF on my "old slow" (geez, what's fast nowadays?!) 2.08Ghz Athlon, with onboard sound, 5700FX Ultra, 768 MB ram PC, with no troubles...takes about 30 seconds to load a mission I make myself, with lots of objects

Try defragging your drive and removing spyware.

Also make sure your terrain detail level is not set to Perfect, or else *any* modern system will be brought to a crawl.

No problem here. Runs very fast at a typical 35-40 fps average.

AMD 2700+, 1GB ram PC2700, Radeon 9700Pro.

You have to work on your settings and drivers (sound, video, motherboard).

It has to be a driver and/or settings issue.

I'm running IL2 FB & the latest patched AEP (just got the AEP yesterday) in a 1.3GHz AMD box with 256MB of RAM & a 64MB VRAM NVidia GeForce2 MX/MX. And the bugger _works_ too - well of course there's some stuttering when the activity is high, but for the most part I'm getting like 25-35 FPS which I think is fair enough.

And yeah, sure it looks like s**t now that ye mention it http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

...and the reasons for being able to run it at all w/ this piece of c**p Win98 machine are as follows:

1) Hard drives are defragged often
2) Nothing but a firewall gets loaded @ bootup
3) PCI latencies are set low
4) FSAutostart is always used
5) Recent NVidia drivers (v.4.14.10.6694) are used & adjusted for speed, not quality
6) AA is not used at all
7) Graphical detail is set low in the game
8) The system is checked regularly for spyware and viruses

My IL2Setup video settings are:

* OpenGL
* 1024x768 16bit (as is my desktop too)
* bilinear
* S3TC
* Dither
* Vertex Arrays
* Vertex Array Extension
* Clip hint
* Texture Compress ARB Extension

Martin - The Mk9 Auster Pilot

Well it should be ok, there is a lot more to load and the community help will be the ones to do it :

But as a Auster Pilot I would add, Speed is not naturally your Forte...

What is the AEP? I'll fiddle with settings some more too.

AEP is the aces expansion disc that can be bought seperate for IL2 Forgotten Battles, it gives you more planes and maps, this was then expanded again with Pacific Fighters which is where we are now

What is the AEP? I'll fiddle with settings some more too.

Il2 FB does take a lot longer to load and do other things than the original Il2.

Sure you want to learn all you can about your computer and setting it up so it runs the best it can. but you are just going to have to get used to it is all.

I have two rigs with the latest patched version and I set up a friends to run also. The rigs are and amd athlon 900/gf2ultra/640mbsdram, Amd athlon 1333mhz/768mbsdram/gf3ti500, amd athlon xp3200, 1gigddr/9800pro. All these rigs run the sim competently. Of course the less powerful ones cannot run the sim with as many ai planes and objects as the newer ones. And all three will load the old il2 faster, it is just a fact that has nothing to do with drivers or set up, it is the software.
The current il2 sim is probably as demanding a piece of software as you can run on a personal computer. It taxes the cpu, uses a lot of ram and pushes the limits of graphics technology.
Just learn some patience and find things to enjoy about the sim instead of sitting there fretting about a few extra seconds that you have to wait without being "entertained". Maybe developing yourself in this way will help you in other areas of life also.

Talk about old and slow.
Mine seems ancient.
Compaq Presario Pentium 4 1.5Ghz with 768mb of RAM.On board sound with a Nvidia Ti-4800 128mb graphics card.
When I bought it the original Il-2 wasn't even out yet. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-surprised.gifI just got it to run CFS2 and EAW.I upgraded to my present graphics card right before FB came out.My old card was a Nvidia 64mb card.
Anyway,it does a pretty good job now that I have optimized my video and graphics settings(thanks to Steve V and many other kind community members).
Through constant tweaking and a little research, I have this baby running pretty smooth.I have landscape detail set to excellent and no problems.Heck,I even run it on perfect offline .As long as there aren't a lot of planes in the air at once or a lot of flak,it does pretty good.
I think my next cpu will be something tailored around BoB when it comes out.
I better start saving my money! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/53.gif
