Nice games :P

My first "flightsim" was called "Bomber" i played it on my Amiga 500, i cant find any movie on it http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_frown.gif

But it was sweet almost like il2, there was a lot of ac you could fly, like the Saab JA 37 Viggen http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/heart.gif

I spent hours playing this (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K_Kw1qShZQQ&feature=related) game on and offline...

I had a lot of re-hab time to kill after my accident.

I thought BoB:TFH was a great game. I played it for hundreds of hours. It looks dated now, but it was 17 years ago when I first played it. 17 years from now OLeg's BoB:SoW will look dated too....if it's been released by then. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

Great little gems.. In my mind, this game still has better physics than IL2 (I bet if I played it now it would not hold a flame though). It looks like someone got a trackIR working with it, pretty nifty looking around in a 3d cockpit for a game that came out in 1995.

The great thing about BOB; Their finest hour was that during a campiagn you could train other pilots and then fly with them as your wingmen.

I also remember WINGS was a great game. A story based game of fighting and flying on the western front.

And for those who can remember CARRIER Command was brillant I still play it now.

That was the first combat sim I played on the PC. I Spent many many many hours playing it. I used to wake up early before school just so I could get an hours worth in before getting on the bus.

I also remember playing the SWOTL demo for the first time and being excited about it's release.. I called the Egghead Software store WEEKLY for about two months asking about it's release.

I can also recall wishing it was multiplayer capable. Same rang true for Aces of the Pacific and Aces Over Europe...

Ahh trips down memory lane..

Back around 1985 or so I remember playing Sub-Logic Flight Simulator - it was a wireframe sim for the Apple II. I believe it was the fore-father to Microsofts Flight Sim series. At the time is was the coolest thing ever and I couldn't even in my wildest dreams imagine something like IL-2. After that it was F-15 Strike Eagle III on my first PC - a Compaq 486 SX-25. Su-27 Flanker, the Jane's series and on and on from there.

By the way, for a trip down memory lane, visit http://www.the-underdogs.info/ for a huge assortment of games which are FREELY available (public domain). They have tons of really old flight simulators - many of which I've never heard of. Go down in your basement or garage and dust off that old 386 and have some nostalgic fun!! I'd be willing to bet that old game (no matter if it's a flight sim or not) is available FREE if you have old hardware which will run it.

kids.........Look here for some real games http://www.marvin3m.com/arcade/ , though I can't find the kind we had down south where you'd put nickles in the machine and move bingo like cards around, yet the balls just rolled down striking steel pins to fall in holes.....

Pinball down south used to be called "flipper ball" as pinball had no flippers.

Lawrence Holland programmed several games for Lucas Arts. I think the most popular was the X-wing series; my favorite was TIE Fighter...

No video of the game from my 'formative years', but here's a link showing the glory that was "Tau Ceti", similar to elite, but with 'stunning' graphics!

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tau_Ceti_(computer_game)

As for flight-sims, Jane's WWII Fighters was the first I ever installed on my very low-spec PC, but still looks good from this video link:

anyone remember "dogfights"? 80 years of airfighting or something? could set up one on ones between a Dr.1 and an F-16...

aww wings was great, the diary/flight log thing was one of the best aspects, added so much immersion to it, and it's a shame it was never really copied.

Nice 1 Sharpe, I preferred the Aces series over Their Finest Hour\SWOTL (and Battlehawks 1942 I think the 1st game was called?) as it didn't have the damage meter. But they were all great games in their own right.

Fighter Bomber was its name.Had it too, although to my Atari 1040STE.I did however never encounter any enemy fighters or sams in that game, even though I did exactly the opposite what the briefing said how not to alert them."Stay low out of radar sight"I flew as high I could http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif "bomb the commanders tent first to avoid enemy AC" pff,my last target of all and I did loiter around in ten minutes too, hoping to alert them.I want to dogfight damnit! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

M$ had FS running before then. First M$FS I saw was on Apple IIe end of '82 and it sucked.
In 1981 I had run an airwar game at the Univ of Delaware in Newark where you had to hold the
enter key down then use other keys to control the plane, but it had a Saab Viggen.

AFAIK M$ was the first out on PC to emulate what was done on real computers before.
The only original out of Gates was the new forms of lies he came up with screwing IBM.

You missed a whole lot of really crappy games then!

I remember when a 386 was something to envy but then I remember when 286's held that place.
The Amiga was the first really good machine for gaming and it took about 10 years for PC's
to start to catch up. If it wasn't for Jack "Trample" Tramiel we might be running better
hardware today.

All the "lost" afternoons I spent playing this (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7Bs1BH-jM1Y) game after school (LOL)...1 hour weight training, 1 hour bike ride, 2 "bong hits" and then "A'Stroids"

...good times, good times.

Their finest hour was my first ever Fllightsim. And I bought it before hearing anything about it before. I was in France in a students exchange programm and saw it in the shelves. I just had to get it, hehe.

Aces over the Pacific, Aces over Europe, Red Baron coming next. These were the days =)

At the time I divided my flight time between EAW, RBII and Flying Corps.

I remember very well, playing this on my C64.
I think that was the first game I had that had something to do with aviation, though the first flight sim was Jet, by SubLogic. SubLogic originally created Flight Simulator, before Microsoft bought them out. Jet could use some of the scenery disks from FS. I think it only had 2 planes.

I actually missed quite a bit. After the C64 days of flight sims (F-15 Strike Eagle, F-19 Stealth Fighter, for the most part), I didn't play any flight sims again until US Navy Fighters. Oh, there was one called F-14 Fleet Defender or something like that by Microprose that was an awful, ugly, buggy piece of junk.

It seems that the heady days, for me, where the late 90's. Longbow 2, EAW, Flanker, Jane's WWII Fighters, even Screamin' Demons.
