Been a few months.

Unfortunately, I cannot undo what I have already done. I find this execrable, but that is reality whether I like it or not.

If you even remember, Bearcat; I am not speaking of what you are thinking.

What, then?

I cannot unspend money that I have spent; I can't take it back. Over the years I have bought, paid for, PURCHASED WITH REAL, HONEST-TO-GOD MONEY, the original Il-2, then Forgotten Battles, then the Aces Expansion Pack, then Pacific Fighters, then the mistake of buying Pe-2 (royal screw-job there, fighting the battle of boonty for months afterward only to see it included in Il-2 '46 so that I could buy it a second time. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/35.gif ), then Il-2 '46. To cap that off; I bought 3 copies of Pacific Fighters - 2 of them the Platinum all included version - as gifts for relatives. That's a few hundred dollars down the drain.

Then, I get called a liar and a thief for by-passing a problem that I discovered after Il-2 '46 arrived: The fact that I could not INSTALL the game I just PURCHASED WITH REAL, HONEST-TO-GOD MONEY through GO-GAMER for want of a DVD/rom drive. Admittedly, I should have realized I was going to have a problem before-hand as I knew my CD-friggin'-rom drive would not read DVD's .... but - idiot that I was - I was so happy to be able to get my hands on a copy of the thus-far-Europe-only-available upgrade that I over-looked that minor detail until I tried to install the game. No matter how many times I patiently explained to my baffled computer that there was, in fact, actually a disk in the drive it just kept insisting there was no disk in the drive and said I was clearly insane. The wretch actually had the sheer presumption and audacity to refer me to a local psychiatrist!

After exploring a few possible solutions (I believe I actually started a thread here about this problem and none of the suggestions I received could solve the problem) I went and acquired a pirated version of the game as the only then practicable solution open to me. The ONLY way I would even give a single thought of any length to getting a pirated version was in a case such as this WHERE I HAD BOUGHT THE GAME WITH REAL, HONEST-TO-GOD MONEY, THUS ENSURING THAT OLEG, 1C MADDOX GAMES AND UBISOFT RECEIVED THE MONEY THEIR WORK WARRANTED.

Before you called me a liar and a thief, bearcat; did you even momentarily consider allowing me to prove my case?

Obviously not.

So, while I cannot undo the mistake I made in spending all that money on Il-2 and its diadochi what I can do is:

Never again buy any other Maddox 1C / Ubisoft product for the remainder of my days. There is now no chance that I will buy SOW-BoB.

I am done with this.

just buy a DVD rom drive and get over the drama, , if you can spend a couple hundred buying IL2 for relatives, you can chug a decent drive.

Next.

What..?!! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/blink.gif

Who are you.....? Are you Ludner? Is this post directed at Ludner.. or me? What are you talking about? When did I call you a liar and a thief?

If you bought a DVD and tried to run it in a DVD drive.... how is that my fault?

Yeah.. I bought every copy I have too.. and several others as gifts.... from FB, to the FB GOLD pack to 46 as well.... so your point is....... http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-indifferent.gif

$20.99 (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16827135159)

You'll need it anyway. DVDs are somewhat replacing CDs because of data storage capacity. Plus, you could pop in a DVD movie in your PC when everyone in your home has taken over the other TVs.

Think about it.. there are a few thousand people who have installed the game with no problem.
If there has been a problem its usually the users PC system that is not 'powerfull' enough.
On all games there is a MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS listing.

So the problem here is, as you say, your PC cd-drive, and the next problem is YOU. You're trying to shove a 'round' DVD disk into a 'square' CD drive, and you wonder why your PC moans.

Come on, grow up and go get a DVD drive - you'll be much happier.

If he paid for a copy, who cares if he pirates another one?

It's the same thing at the end. 1C gets their money either way.

Yes, but illegal downloads make Baby Jesus cry. Don't you watch those adverts in the beginning of DVD movies that you can't skip? http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_razz.gif

Besides, the guy NEEDS a DVD. Come on, it's one of the cheapest piece of hardware you can find these days, and ALL software is coming in DVDs anyway. It's not like they cheated on him: my retail box says 'PC-DVD' very clearly. He can buy a nice *expensive* GFX board because it is necessary to run it, and can't afford a *cheap* DVD drive that he will need for EVERYTHING? http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_rolleyes.gif

I'm not saying he DOESN'T need a DVD drive... but the fact remains that he purchased a game from 1C, and couldn't play it until he either a) bought a DVD reader or b) acquired an image of the DVD.

As far as he and 1C are concerned, it's win-win.

Legal and highly advised. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif

It's not only 1C profit, but breaking the law what should worry you. Buying a DVD game when he had not a DVD driver is his own-created problem, and it does not entitle him to solve his own mistake by breaking the law. Worthy or not, illegal downloads can't be promoted or publicly approved, no matter the circumstances.
