View Full Version : Possible Oxygen tank hit?

Like if a bullet goes through an O2 tank or ricochets through the tubing, could you have them black out at high altitude? I know it's tedius but it would add a Nuance to the game.

Oxygen Tank it would be nice!!! Imagine you are in a furball and somebody hit your oxygen ank, u must go down!!! Radio too, but if you are in a coop online, the RW,BC or TS never hit /i/smilies/16x16_man-tongue.gif

Won't oxygen tanks explode if shot to pieces?
If so, I think it's already modelled cause
FB planes are more explosive than IL-2 planes...

Yeah, a hot tracer hits oxygen and you've got one big explosion, or an uncontrollable flash fire. You'd have to model tank location, capacity for explosive effect, rate of usage- doesn't remain full, and current pressure-drops as used up. Not so simple after all.

Interesting nuance.

I would like to see external stores or bombloads detonate if hit by various rounds (at least 20mm on up, perhaps some probability of a 0.5/12.7 round causing an explosion as well. Presently, no matter how hard you hit them, they won't explode...UNLESS the AI has just jettisoned them. When that occurs they become active explosive targets and if hit close to the plane, they can destroy the plane as well. Also, there are a number of VVS aircraft and Italian types that will not catch fire no matter how many rounds you put into the fuel tanks.

Anoxia caused by broken or damaged oxygen equipment was a common cause of death for pilots in WWII. You wouldn't just black out quicker at high altitude, you'd black out and never wake up before you dug a hole with your plane

Maybe that's an argument for improved in-game radio
(Aces High is quite nice in that you don't have to
do all that pre-game setting up) and honesty in using
it? Then you could enforce a combination of radio
hit, or indeed tab-commands for hand signals only
for aircraft that did not have radios (not many by
WW2 of course) or even model things such as quality
of radio gear (the VVS liked the Hurricane radio,
for example).

It would be quite a bit of work to do this to duplicate,
say, TeamSpeak, but maybe 1C:Maddox could do a deal
to use the TeamSpeak code, and just hide the interface,
and add some additional effects, such as cutting off
the comms when required. Probably something for the next
sim.

For the non-radio comms it would be nice to have
animations of the pilot waving, etc., but that's
probably something for the next sim too.

It would be basically impossible to enforce a 'no sneaky
RW session' rule, of course.

Very true. Might be impressive too since the tanks are sometimes in the wings. Might explain why wings explode on war footages, though it might also be ammunition exploding....


Anyone saw landing gear hydraulic failure? Gear going down because of weapon fire? I'm surprised I never experienced that with a damage model so impressive....
