It's called MULTIPLAYER! That's something that Aces of the Deep did NOT have.

Get a bunch of friends together, go online, and enjoy a more realistic and fun experience with wolfpacks than any AI could produce!

If you don't wanna play online, don't complain. That's why it's there. I for one prefer hunting alone in the campaign. More fun that way especially against a convoy! I'd hate to be the one trying to escape from the escorts while the AI subs sink the whole convoy and get all the points. And you KNOW that's the way AI usually works. They would hunt you and forget the AI subs.

Want wolfpacks? Go online, and quit complaining!

I've played Mittelwaechter's SP mission "U42Wolfsrudel", which has 2 other AI U-boats in it.

The best of both worlds!

Or maybe not. I have no idea what functional limitations are imposed on these AI subs. Can any SP mission makers out there enlighten us further?

It's not so simple my friend. I'm usually very sceptic when comes to on line play because of the general "ethics" level of casual players. I thought that for a game like SHIII, I'll find difficult to meet Counter Strike-like players. I just was wrong. I tried once to join a Ubi server.
The game was marked as "Normal", so, to be more realist / challenging I took my usual VIIB and joined the game. The result? Everybody else with their XXI and their unlimited ammo, they spread chaos and destruction among every poor living creature in that Ocean area (I'm not sure if some whales manage to escape http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif ) and left me only 2 poor small merchants, totaly scoring a mere 4000T. No wolfpack tactics, no coordination, no nothing. It was just loosing my time. After this experience, I'll be very sceptic to try to play this game on line again

What? They haven't made a bunnyhopping cheat yet for U-boat's to jump on top of the water to avoid enemy fire?

What's taking them so long?! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/51.gif

THAT'S WHY I SAID WITH FRIENDS... It's dumb to play almost ANY game online with strangers...

NOTE: I used the word ALMOST!

It's because they're working on the excavation cheat (when you crash dive, hit hard the sea bottom with your bow and your dive planes start diging the tunnel that brings you in good firing position) http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/53.gif

I too can vouch for coop mp Gameplay. With like minded friends, all working together, games become so much more intense, especially when using teamspeak http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

A group that I am with that is heavy into FPS like Raven Shield and CS:S play SH3 on the side. Working with team mates in custom built missions on a password protected server is a blast. Definitely takes the game to a whole other level when you can work together with four or more boats with live human operators who can cooperate with an overall strategy.

Question: are these privately arranged MP matches on a LAN or over the Internet? I thought the latter wasn't available.

Well, I can tell you that any server with UF on it will be a serious one. Couiple of us play and we use teamspeak for comms..great for tactics and see where everyone is. I am the kind of player that likes to sneak in and kill the convoy...I have even taken out destroyers that were pinging or searching for fellow MP players...saving then from almost certain destruction. I enjoy MP the most, I dont like run and gun types and deck gun cowboys. If your out of torps then fine. The other night myself a fellow clan memeber and a stranger where playing and had a C2 that seemd unsinkable. I bet we hit it with 15 torps. I finally rammed it then broad sided it and moved ahead of her and opened the distance. fired my aft tube on impact trigger and stopped her dead.....lol.

We play MP on the internet, not LAN - and internet can support up to eight players (regarless of what the box and manual play). I've played in many servers on ubi.com that had eight human players.

I once suggested to have a thread "sticked" where all casual players can arrange MP matches. The concept is to be much more "loose" than clan matches but to avoid the hussle of PM or email each other just to have a match. Any suggestions?

lol...never thought of that. UF=United Federation. The UF (http://www.unitedfed.org). Anyone and I mean anyone is more then welcome to stop by our forums and request a game. We like to have fun but try to keep the realism of the game intact. Our forums are free and open to anyone at all. UF-Spyman, UF-Asphaltmo and myself already have and play the game and a few others are getting it. We play a few other games as well and own servers for almost all of them...also free to public.
