How workable would it be to allow the player to designate their own ammo patterns for each of their guns?

I know that historically, MGs usually used something like 3 ball, 3 armor-piercing / incendiary, and then a tracer, or some variant of that (3 ball, 1 tracer, 1 API, etc, etc...)

I'm not sure about cannons, I've got vauge memories of reading somewhere that it was 2 or 3 normal rounds and then a tracer round.

What I'm wondering is if, on the arming screen, we could set up our own sequences for each gun. Something like using 3 ball, tracer in the .30s on a P39N1, 2 ball, 3 API, tracer in the .50s, and then 2 shells, tracer in the cannon.

Some system sort of like that, where it gave you the ammo types the gun was capable of shooting, and then you could drag them over into the pattern, and drop them wherever in the sequence you wanted.

Stenciled on the side of my Dora:

hmmmm....I'm not sure about the custom loadouts for MG ammo, would you like to sort through a 500round belt of .30 for your P-39 to customize it? How about FOUR belts of ammo for all the guns?

I think that may be an idea to apply for the cannons, like the 20mm on the 109E, or the Mk-108. Actually, somebody posted a document on the Mk-108 showing that the pilots had their choice of several ammo loads.

I would like a feature that had last, say, 3 seconds of ammo have tracer every other round... USAAC and USSAF had a similar system to warn of low ammo

It would be a nightmare online, if you wanted other players to "see" your ammo mix!

However if you were the only one to "see" it then the network load would be less (amybe?). Then again the Host CPU would still be busy calculating damage and visual effect models so I doubt very much that we will see this in FB.

it sure would be neat though. for experienced pilots, you could put no tracers in there. especially crazy for online play; you wouldn't even know the bullets are flying by until you get a wing blown off
