If ya liked the movie the DVD is out tomorrow. Also there is a special edition DVD out as well.

I agree its not some huge budget movie (Look how the movie Pearl Harbor ended up) But for the flying parts it was fun to watch. Sure its a fictional story but its entertaining. Just like Dark Blue World.

I know this movie was poo pooed here but I for one thought it was great fun and will be buying a few copies for friends as well as my own collection. Probably the last major WW I aviation release any of us will ever see (unless the German made Red Baron movie is released here) http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-sad.gif

What I found amusing is how the film was marketed here in the states vs how the DVD is being marketed.

The promos for the theatrical run focused on drama: young boys getting in over their heads in wartime; the usual love interests, pull-on-your-heartstrings music, and some action sequences to make things exciting.

I guess since the theatrical release was a dud, they are going in another direction with the DVD. The commercials are 100% action: plenty of explosions and lots of shoot-em-up footage, all backed by kicka** metal music. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/metal.gif

I'll get Flags of our Fathers and Letters from Iwo Jima first. Still on the fence re:buying Flyboys.

I hope Flags of Our Fathers and Letters From Iwo Jima come out in special edition DVDs. I would like to see the making of for both and the commentary.

I find Letters from Iwo Jima a better movie for some reason. I like how they used a Lockheed Hudson in place of a Japanese transport.

Out on DVD? This movie doesn't open here in Australian theatres for another 2 weeks.

I was wondering about the Australian release. I thought I'd already missed it. Got a couple of free tickets the other day too!

The last avation movie I saw in the cinema was Memphis Belle, in 1990 http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

It wasn't screened here in Spain. But we have lots of sh*tty Spanish drammas -basically consisting on many people shouting in small rooms and naked women smoking in bed. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-mad.gif

Releasing Rote Baron Der' only in germany would in my opinion would be rather foolish as these day's marketing films is all about the money and ratings.
Remember Das Boot was a German made film released in the U.S with sub-titles and quickly became a classic WWII film.
I for one will look forward to Rote Baron Der' being released here and in europe.

I was 9 years old when that movie came out and I think it changed my life. Never before or since has a film so completely captured my imagination and inspired my interest in its subject matter.

Of course now I recognize much of the film as Hollywood fiction but to me at age 9, it was pure bliss. I might never have developed such an avid interest in WWII aviation (or aviation at all) if not for that film.

Come to think of it, I think I'll go buy a copy.

Was starting to think I'd missed it as well. Flags of our Fathers went straight by me.
