View Full Version : Rocksmith for Wii?

Are there any plans for a Wii version of Rocksmith?

From the Rocksmith Facebook discussion:

Ubisoft Support
At the moment, Rocksmith will only be released on the PS3, 360, and PC.

There's another post by ubisoft that mentions the Wii doesn't have the power to do what they need for Rocksmith.

Here's the quote I was looking for:

While we are still looking into the feasibility of releasing Rocksmith on the Wii, unfortunately the cutting-edge technology we’re using requires more power than the Wii currently has available to handle the multiple effect pedals/cab/amp simulation we have in the game.

Simply put, it wouldn’t sound nearly as good as it does on the Xbox 360, PS3, and PC, and we want to keep this an authentic experience. If we find a way to run the game on the Wii without compromising the audio quality, you guys will be the first to know!

Can you make something like a pedal to go in between the guitar
and console to handle the amp simulations etc. for wii?

Sure you could make physical pedals to do some of it (after all the in game pedals are modeled after real pedals,) but the cost to buy all of them required would be astronomical.

All the pedal companies have modeling for under $100.Not astronomical. There's some good models on the cheaper pedals, I'm sure someone could come up with something in that range.

With WiiU coming out soon, I don't see them really pumping a lot of money into development for the current generation Wii. People are complaining about the $80 for the cable and game. Can you imagine the stuff people would say if it was $200 without a guitar? For a system that is going to be phased out soon?

Will they release it for Wii U?

As a software developer who's dabbled with some Wii "homebrew" code: the Wii CPU is grossly underpowered compared to the PS3, XBox360, and modern PCs.

As the Rocksmith game obviously uses a lot of digital signal processing for converting the input signal to notes / chords / whatever, for adding amp / pedal effects to the output signal, and for doing on-the-fly merging of the multi-tracked parts of the songs (guitar, 2nd guitar, bass, drums, vocals, etc), I'm guessing that optimizing the code enough that it could run smooth on the Wii for these tasks would be a major undertaking, and it'd be uncertain if it could even be possible.

Heck, the 3.2 GHz CPU of the PS3, with its 6 vector-processing units, has a hard time with Rocksmith. I'm seeing significant lag in the visuals when playing the venues with a lot of animated audience graphics. (Which smells a little of bad programming, though, but whatever.) Getting this same code to run smooth on the lowly 0.75 GHz Wii CPU with 2 simple SIMDs would be seriously impressive.

Wii is a dead system. Wii U could almost certainly handle the game but at this point I doubt it. There has been no indication Ubi is doing anything in the Wii U beyond ZombiU and AC3 at the moment. They are probably focused on new titles for that console. I'd expect a Rocksmith 2 to make the jump.

As written on title : Any chance on Wii-U one day ?
The Wii-U is not on its increasing sales curve of course, but Activision made their Guitar Hero Live also on Wii-U (Harmonix didn't with Rockband 4).
Any chance to get a specific Rocksmith for real guitars, or an update of Rocksmith 2014 on Wii-U one Day ?
It's not really easy to plug the PC on the TV, and no way I buy an xbox or a PS3-4.

"No plans" is probably all you are likely to get.

Why not a laptop and run it on there?

No plans. Ubisoft released other games for Wii U.
