View Full Version : How do you control your Track IR?

-Do you use one dot and place it on a pair of glasses?
-Do you stick it on your forehead?
-Do you use a whole array of dots around your head ?

In short, what is the best way to control Track IR in your experience?

The detector is placed on top of the monitor...

I have a baseball cap turned backwards and place 5 dots on the band (5th dot in middle). Give yourself a foot 0r two space between you and monitor. Use F12 to adjust as needed. Done.

This thread is long but shows many good ways (better than the typical dot setup) to control your TIR: http://forums.ubi.com/eve/forums?q=Y&a=tpc&s=400102&f=49310655&m=15310285&p=1

I have a headset with a mic boom. So i cut a ping pong ball in half, then cut a triangular slit into the side of it. It snaps right onto the mic boom OVER the front microphone no problem. No tape or glue needed. Cover the half ball with dots and youre good to go. You can even talk into the mic since only the front is covered.

It is not necessary to turn your head to steer the TIR, just move it as an owl while facing the monitor. Any reflective tape will do.

go get a pair of safety glasses at wal-mart (not safety goggles....thats makes you look stupid) and put the dot in the center as high above the nose as you can.

I found a Niteize maglight head band works real well and it gives you that cool kamikaze look

I just use a baseball hat, with a binder clip on the end of it and a metallic dot stuck to the tip of that. Works perfectly.

Dang, I'm surprised TOAD didn't respond yet...

I took a wooden ball and taped it to an old baseball cap visor (on top of the brim) and then I took all the dots and placed them all over the wooden ball. Works like a charm. No matter how much I turn my head, it always has something to track.

I ordered the track hat with mine. Not only does it work good, it's a cool looking hat and helps my head phones to fit better. I'm gona order another one to to wear when I go out.

Didn't need too! Tbolt already plugged my Track IR Fix thread http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/11.gif

Besides I've spent the last two wonderful weahter days flying my R/C planes and shooting my rifle getting ready for Deer season this Saturday.

i find it depends on the monitor height

- high mounted monitor with sensor beneath it (LOW SENSOR).. works best with dots on the mike boom
- lowish monitor with sensor above (HIGH SENSOR).. works best with dots on cap peak

best to use as few dots as you can get away with

My TIR3 Pro came with a clip and double-sided tape for LCD monitors. I cut a strip of heavy card stock about half an inch wide and two inches long. Made a triangle out of the cardstock (kinda like a sandwich board sign), put a large dot on it, then fastened it to the clip. The clip slides real nice onto the brim of a hat - basically the same as the TrackHat but without the cost http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Only downside is since I can now use TIR with my favorite hat, I sometimes forget to take the clip off. Got some weird stares at Wal-Mart a few weeks ago, which will happen when you have a contraption with a big reflective dot clipped on to the front of your hat.

I use an infrared emmiter attached to a boom mike and the receiver is parked on middle top of monitor.

Like Kanno said... get the Tracker hat. I wear mine out and people, in game stores too, wonder what NaturalPoint stands for. So, I have to tell em. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

I use a pair of sunglasses with the lens taken out (Buddy Holly nerdish-looking). With these I have an alligator-clip attached at the bridge with one reflective dot on it,
Works like a charm !!

I started to use a ping pong ball half to attach to the boom on my headset microphone, but my son comes home with the pecans from his school and well...a half pecan shell actually fits perfectly over the mic (it's not spherical, it's more oblong or oval...like a pecan shell http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif ). So I purchased a roll of reflective tape, covered the outside of the half shell, and popped it right on the mic (outside part). The TrackIR sensor sits atop the monitor, slightly to one side (same side as the boom mic). I completely disagree with one of the previous posters who said keep the dot as small as possible. You should make it as big as possible and viewable by the sensor from as many angles as possible.

Voice comms are a must for online enjoyment for me and I hate wearing hats (hot here in Phoenix as well as it musses up the 'do). Plus, I use Shoot1.6 to do Voice Commands for both communicating with AI in game as well as speaking 10 pre-canned chat messages when flying online. This $5 headset/mic combo from Radio Shack is probably the best $5 I've ever spent for enjoyment purposes.

YMMV.
