I don't know the answer for your question...

...but I recommend watching and listening to this 20-mm gun with a truly exceptional sound http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif:

No, that's a 20mm Flak 38. The 109 had MG-FF, which did not pack as much punch. Still a lot.

Certainly not!

The Bf109E was initially equipped with the MGFF cannon firing the 20x80RB shell which had a miserable 640m/s muzzle velocity. Later on in and around 1940 those were upgraded to the MGFF/M capable of firing the newly introduced Minengeschoss (Mineshell) which was a special thin walled shell filled with a manifold of the explosive content that the ordinary HE shell carried (18g vs 4.4g).

The Flak38 fired the 20x138B, meaning that the shell as a whole was much longer (more propellant) and thus had a a much much higher muzzle velocity than the shell fired by the MGFF!

Completely different beasts, with the 2cm C30 and C38 Flak guns firing a massively powerful round. But as a matter of curiousity, a deriviative of the C30 was originally proposed for the 109 as a engine gun - but given the thing weighted something like 130 kg vs 28 kg or so of a Oerlikon 20mm MG FF which essentially fired a shell of similiar destructive capabilty, but with much more modest ballistics, it was not carried forward.

The same 2cm Flak gun was however mounted on ships, subs for AA and some German armored cars and light tanks (Pz II) as main armament.

What's the effective ground to air range of that flak 20mm?

German Flak Weapon Data (http://www.patriotfiles.com/forum/showthread.php?t=93013)

This what you need? Looks to be 2134 meters according to this source. That's 7001.312336 feet, if you were wondering... http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif
