Oh yes..the lovely Gamespy forums.

Home of the most unmoderated forums ever.As well as the home of the biggest, over inflated ego, loudmouth,I should have been aborted before I was born, lower than pond scum forum denizens ever to grace any internet forum.

I do have to laugh when I see half of what is posted over in those forums.

Somebody needs to tell him stall is a product of angle of attack, not airspeed...just say'in.

"*ahem* Well, obviously this poor rabble is of a community that is of considerably less intellectual capacity than our esteemed club. It is simply impossible for these commoners to absorb what it is to be a true flightsimmer, and thus understand, no less comprehend, the finer aspects of said activity.

"Now, pass me the XBox controller so that I may partake upon the flightsimming experience that is Secret Weapons Over Normandy.

"Sim's will attract older more intelligent, also read: richer crowd. guys who turn entire basements into virtual pc cockpits. peeps who spend 300~400 plus bucks on a wheel or flight sticks just for the realism it adds. a typical sim might have eye-candy, but physics would most important. you console-luvin turds don't understand this so stick to what you can grasp."

GTR and GPL. Pfffft. I can drive a car in Simpsons Hit and Run, what's the big deal

Ow... That linked thread was physically painful to read.

Reminds me of the people who complain about GTR or GPL because they are 'hard to drive'... meaning you actually have to ease off the gas when approaching a hairpin turn.

Scary thing is, these people will grow up and vote.

Some of what was said is true. The community kills the games. Look at how many threads about the gunsight on the FW, 50 cal, etc. etc. I sometimes wonder why the Dev team keeps putting out addons and such.

The main thing most people forget is that this is a G-A-M-E , to have F-U-N with. If you want realism, get a pilots liscense ! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/mockface.gif

Let's face it, the 1000 or so psycho's here will not make enough money for 1C or any other developer. BoB must have a kick-a$$ single player mode or it will go the way of the Dodo bird. Onwhiners, the few, (very few compared to other sims) that play every
night is just not enough to warrent further devlopment. It is just a matter of time before UbiSoft (tm) pulls the plug.

But then he continues to write "... I also suck at Halo 2." Been playing Halo 2 with my 9 year old nephew and it's not THAT hard. Yep, this demonstrates some important points about computer games and simulations:

1st point: There are basically TWO kinds of crowds. those who want a `challenge` and to act in the footsteps of real-life men and women in whatever the real-life genre is, ie Flying WWII aircraft, tanks, submarines, race-driving realistically while using skills and have a yearning interest in one of these fields... This is Group A. They tend to be in the minority... And there are....

... those who don`t really care how stupid or unrealistic it is as long as they can do whatever it is (usually blowing up stuff) quickly and with VERY little effort. These type of people usually don`t care squat about the `boring` important things that greatly affected all our lives and futures, such as WWII and aren`t interested in finding out what it was like in respect of the people who went through it all. Anyone else complains that the program`s not realistic and you`re likely to hear stuff like "It`s just a game!"
Which misses the point of a simulation based on a serious reality. This is Group B, they tend to be the majority.

(p.s
Of course, some people fall into both categories).

2nd point:

Because of the 1st point it is HIGHLY important that whoever MAKES a realistic simulation must have a personal vested interested in it and really WANT to make a simulation, since if group B has its way, they will turn his SIM into a game with little respect for the REAL people who once took part. The programmer must be prepared to sacrifice the chance to have MAXIMUM customers if he truly wants to make that which he loves, flight simulations. Of course, realistic sim programmers could just install an EASY to REALISTIC setting, but many i`ve seen seem to want to fly on full settings with easy options??

Think of it this way, you can`t make a maximum profit in every product. Is a bread baker going to put chocolate in ALL his bread because he knows MORE people will like it and therefore give him a greater profit? No. Some people just want normal wholemeal bread!

This is why such Head Programmers like Oleg are VERY important. Yes, they want a profit, but they also LOVE to make a SIMULATION of WWII aircombat, therefore he has to be strong-willed NOt to completely go over to JUSt making a profit...

Otherwise, NO simulations... Just arcade games.
Basically to have a real simulation, the developer needs to love the subject, and maybe have someone willing to chance cash on him or have his own. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-indifferent.gif
Ummm, yes...

Guess this means we won't be seeing 'Leg working for EA anytime soon, eh?

(or for anyone else, for that matter)

While some of the bellyaching in those sorts of threads are fairly intollerable the actual threads themselves aren't all that bad in the greater scheme of things.

They may look a bit bad from the outside in but from the inside out it shows how detailed and finely interested we are in this product. If you didn't care at all then you wouldn't stick it out for a 10 page argument on the correct positioning and angle of a bloody gunsight. Thats how interested we are...it shouldn't be completely mistaken as the fans saying this is a bad product or that the game is horribly flawed. Its not. If it were then we'd be arguing over that sort of stuff.

This type of behavior exists on all game forums. Everywhere. Try visiting forums for a RTS game...or a FPS shooter...try the R6: Lockdown PC forums...now there's some really negative attitudes. Many forums feature childishly abusive and offensive posters with absolutely zero regard for anyone else, are incapable of carrying on a decent conversation without resorting to a namecalling and shortened abbreviations. In short its chaos.

We're actually quite lucky here that there are many well reasoned arugments...even the ones that degenerate and are nasty arguments are still incredibly intellectual and reasoned arugments.

Believe me...I've seen FAR..FAR worse.

I assume this might have something to to with the slightly (!?) higher average age of simmers.
Have there been any polls on this btw? I bet most of us are over 25-30 years old.
