So maybe it takes me a while to get to theses things since I'm more of an online player but here's my question.

In the pilot career game why is it that the nature of the difficulty cannot be changed? When I open the difficuly pages there are the little bars over the switches making for unchangable settings that I don't particularly like. Any way to get around this?

You have to set them before you start the campaign. Then it's locked.

You set the difficulty when you generate the individual campaign within the pilot.
After that, you cannot change them.

In other words, to change the settings, you need to generate a new campaign.
Does that make sense?

Yes, it makes sense. Thanks TC.

As for Buzz- sometimes a errant finger finds it's way to the "return" button when I haven't finished writing.

OH, BUT I'M SURE IT'S NEVER HAPPENED TO YOU!!!! /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

The dynamic JABO's are good, as is the downloadable "Experten" scripted campaign.

I have been told "Barbarossa" and Ian Boy's "Emil" are also good but don't have those ones.

I also found the generated Stalingrad campaign (FW190, edited a few days into the campaign to fly a mission every day) to be extremely immersive and realistic. I liked it so good I kept a log (or diary, but that sounds so... girly... no offence intended to the girls). It reads nearly like a pilot testament from the real campaign, except we captured Stalingrad in November, and the Soviets retreated http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Give the latest version of Dynamic Campaign Generator a try. I tried an earlier version of DCG a long time ago and was totally unimpressed but I tried the latest version again last week and it's excellent now.

It's everything the off line campaign that comes with the game should be but isn't. It's about as "non-linear" as you can get with FB. The problem with most FB campaigns (inlcuding Hangar's which have excellent missions) is that they are linear. No matter what you do, you don't really affect the battle. It's just a string of unrelated missions over the same terrain.

DCG even has a new "Grand Campaign" that runs the entire course of the war.

No, it isn't completely historical because your success or failure help dictate the pace and course of the battle. But it does follow the general course of the war from campaign to campaign.

In DCG, the ground war and the air war are completely tied together and what you do or fail to do really can affect the outcome of a battle. If you kill their tanks and artillery, they're dead and your tanks will advance. If you don't stop the enemy's bombers, your tanks and artillery will be dead and the enemy will punch through. The immersion is terrific.

You aren't stuck with the same plane. Any plane that's correct for that historical time period can be flown and you can switch back and forth. You can even switch between LW and VVS during a campaign.

There is all kinds of customizing you can do:

If you're a real stickler for flying historically, you can fly the early war with LW units using four-ship formations (which the Germans invented in Spain) and VVS flying in the Vic. That's what I'm doing (I always fly Allied) and I get killed a lot but that's how it really was. At least until mid-1942 when the VVS switched to flights of two pairs.

You can even have all the planes of any given type flying the same custom skin. 1024 skins work fine and there is zero lag or warp http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

It does have one of the shortcomiongs of the game on line campaign because it's generated as a pilot career. So you can't change difficulty settings once you've started. But that's about the only limitation I can think of.

I'bve been flying sims for six years and most of that hasd been almost exclusively on line. But on line flying in FB has become so lame lately. Most of it is just sitting in the lobby watching guys with room level temperature IQs discussing the meaning of life.

I'm enjoying taking a break and fighting the DCG Grand Campaign off line. On line Coops are dead (thanks Oleg and/or Ubi for encrypting the missions, that killed Coops), DF arenas are fun but mindless to me (a coulple missions is enough for an evening)and VOW missions are written giving the LW such an immense advatange in plane quality (How many MiGs and Laggs and P-39s can you fly?) that it's not much fun if you fly VVS. VEF, well, from the same guy who brought you the original off line campaign. 'Nuff said.

When I have time to fly, I want to fly, not wait forever in the HL lobby for a VOW or VEF mission to (maybe) start.

I did not like the campaign that came with the game (and I was a beta tester for the patch for the offline campaign, and I'm not violating any confidences when I say it will still suck when the patch is released; it is still linear and has no immersion to it).

But DCG is a really good option. It's free and easy to set up.
