What were the above heavy fighters developed for? I know the 109Z never saw active service but what was the concept behind the design? To me it is a bomber interceptor/destroyer. I see the D0-335A0 as more of a multi role heavy fighter bomber.

How does the community see these fitting into assigned roles & an order of battle for a 1946 campaign & what roles do the ME262A1A, HE162, Gotha, TA152,190D9 Late & 109K4C3 take on?

I have always read that the 109Z was conceived both as a bomber destroyer and as a long range "Jabo". AFAIK the prototype was damaged in a bombing raid and never flew.

How ironic hay?

Also the 109Z prototype was built with the F body, and we have a 109Z in-game build from the G body.

Don't discount the greater endurance of the 109Z. While the analogy with the Twin Mustang is EXTREMELY poor the Twin Mustang holds the record for the greatest distance flown (unrefueled) for a fighter type airplane to this day.

The 109Z could improved the poor enduracne that the FGK models could not match. The Z and Dornier would have made rather good Nightfighters as well.

I don't think the RLM ever figured out what they wanted the Do-335 to do.

That airframe could have easily gone multi-role into the early 1970s like the Douglas Skyraider though. It would have been truly outstanding in conflicts like Korea and Vietnam.

Indeed, the twin Mustang is a great example. Combined with Messer's status in the industry, a G-build 109Z is a very good addition for large scale dynamic campaigns where Germany wins or delays the war outcome. I'm too scared to even think of squadrons of 109Z flying low over Normandy beaches.
