View Full Version : Officer Compliment on U-Boats

I have a few questions regarding the usual wartime officer compliment on U-Boats; The reason I ask is to try and make things harder by having a reduced compliment, your thoughts and experiences would be of interest.

What was the usual compliment on board?
Does the game accuratley match the wartime compliment?
And lastly, how many officers do you have onboard when playing SH3?

AS far I can tell usual compliment was around 4 officers - Captain (whatever rank), Chief engineer (LI), 1st and 2nd Watch Officers (IWO and IIWO). Sometimes a "commander in training" would be present for a combat trip before getting his own boat.

In RL, the navigator was usually a Senior NCO (Obersteuermann etc.), so there is one difference from the games officer positions.

I usually have 5 officers, so I can have all three officer positions in the Zentrale manned, plus Watch Officer on deck, with one officer (usually repair/watch qualified) in reserve).
