I´ve been flyin Il-2 series since beginning. After a long wait we got multiengine bombers with bombsights http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-tongue.gif. I took a look at those and read some postings on them, scratched my head and thought -:Gee, thats complicated! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/53.gif -:I´ll try it some other time http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/blink.gif. That other time never came..until now http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif. I,ve skip bombed and dive bombed with what ever plane, just never got around learning that sight http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/cry.gif
Today I took a He-111 out on a level bombing mission online. Got jumped by two Spits that I managed to shoot down(got hit tho), arrived to target. Passed over and took landmarks, turned back. Tilted that sight forwarths and managed to use rudder trim to align with target. Hit sight automation and it started to track target http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-surprised.gif.
Bombs away!! Level automation off, out of flak area. Some schrapnel hit the plane. I pointed the nose slightly down to gain speed and got away. Message on screen told three trucks and two tanks destroyed!! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/784.gif

With one engine smokin and whining I began the long flight home using levelauto and jumping around the various stations to look out for enemies. Jearney home to base went without further mishaps, besides one engine stopping with home base in sight. The landing was successful and I was satisfied http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif.

Still after so many years this game offers new experiences and pleasant suprices, now and then. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

I recently discovered the fun of level bombing as well. Don't get me wrong, I still like to fly fighters, but flying a bomber, especially if you can get two or more in a formation, is a lot of fun. On Zekes v. Wildcats there are several of us who regularly fly the Betty. One particular night we had seven Betties in formation with four fighters for escourt. Lots of fun, especially with everybody on Teamspeak.

Come join us sometime. We are usually on beginning about about 0500 U.T.

This is one overlooked area of IL-2 that is immersive and fun. I, like you, haven't had a LOT of time working with it, but, if there were more chances to use it in a realistic mission environment, I'd likely do it more often.
