View Full Version : 50 cal convergence

I just want to get a feel to where people who fly planes with wing mounted 50's set their convergence. I've read that the effective range goes out to about 600 yards (548 meters). Also, does anyone have a good sites on conversion?

I keep mine between 175 and 300m.

usually 190-230 or 300-450 if the mission is to bring down bombers

When going against fighters I keep them at 140m (or 180 and 120 on P47). I do not open fire when more than 200m from target. (many .50 equipped pilots open fire when some 500m from target - pure waste)

When bombers are more probable, I use 200m (250/150 on P47) and shoot from some 300m to point blank range.

Yes it depends on combat conditions, and type of aircraft I fly. Usually it is around 250. For P-47 sometimes I can go on 350m... especially in anti-bomber purposes.

i set my .50 cals at 250 when i know that my crate can close well w/ the opposition.

275-300 is set when my AC is not up to snuff w/ the IJN/IJA http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_rolleyes.gif

dogfighting .50 from 150-250m and 150m on canons (lower settings due to less ammo lower rof and ballistics)

if i go for bombers it is set to 300m on both

I set MG's at 200 and cannons at 100 or 150, depending on the plane's ammo supply.

if u fly nose mounted guns; p-38, p-63, p39..u wont have to worry about convergance. historically, american planes had roughly a 300 yard convergance, and that would be 274.32 meters.

With P-47 I set outer guns 500, inner guns 150.

Not concentrated, but hard to miss.

US Navy planes were all set to 1000ft. That's where I set mine, best value or not.

I have mine set between 150-175m

Was 1000ft the official US range? I remember reading 300-500ft(approx. 100-175m) but I can't remember the source (it may have been 'effective range' not convergance setting). I personally set 50s at 150-200m as they don't seem to be very useful at longer ranges... (I prefer the instant gratification of cannon... http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/784.gif)

If with say the P47 you set 'cannon' to 225 and 'MG' to 175 (or any 2 ranges you choose) you will get a 'shotgun effect' of overlapping convergances which make you much more likely to hit the target in the 175-225 zone; at the expense of less concentrated firepower @ 200m than if all guns were set to 200m.

1000ft= 305 meters= 333yards.
