I'm starting to talk like a brit/Aussie because of this forum and my boss at work (boss always says "cheers" ex-U.S.N. outta the U.K.)

Then I deal with U.K./Aussie/NZ to boot.

"Cheers" is pretty common in the U.S., especially if you're buying. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_cool.gif Calling another man your "mate" would get you some strange looks.

In the UK (or at least my part) we often say 'cheers' when we mean 'thanks', for anything that is, not just a drink.

In every American there`s a Brit trying to get out. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/11.gif

Soon you will be drinking tea and saying `ow`s about another cuppa, love!`

You'll walk into your corner bar and say "I'll have some bangers and mash with a side of peas and a pint of stout, mate. Cheers, then."

When you start saying things like 'Ta'very much Guv' an' av' anover'

that you know you av' bin assimilated.

If you come from round my way the realy tricky bit is trying not to sound like some hybrid of the wurzels and an eastender with a bit of Dorset drawl thrown in.

Bill Bailey's west country Darth Vader still gives me a chuckle.

Especially if you don't have a Australian accent and don't look like an Australian.

Y'all know how those Australians look. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/59.gif

An Englishman wanted to become an Irishman, so he visited a doctor to find out how to go about this. "Well" said the doctor, "this is a very delicate operation and there is a lot that can go wrong. I will have to remove half your brain". "That's OK" said the Englishman. "I've always wanted to be Irish and I'm prepared to take the risk".

The operation went ahead but the Englishman woke to find a look of horror on the face of the doctor. "I'm so terribly sorry!!" the doctor said. "Instead of removing half the brain, I've taken the whole brain out". The patient replied, "No worries, mate!!"
