Every now and then I park near the end of the runway to watch the ANG 144th FW's F-16s take off over me during lunch. Today the winds were blowing in the opposite direction that normal, so they were actually taking off away from me. So anyway, I'm sitting there and I see an all black T-38 taxi out and take off. I did a little poking around with Google, and found that the USAF uses them to begin training new F-117 pilots at Holloman AFB. They have the normal USAF markings in white, but I couldn't tell if the one I saw had them or not. I've seen it a couple times before, but it's not normally stationed here. The thing is, other than the occasional appearance of an F/A-18, we don't have anything but the normal F-16s, and certainly no F-117s. Also it didn't use the ANG parking area; it was all the way down on the other end of the airport. The takeoff and landing times were pretty close to those of the F-16s today, but maybe just a coincidence. Does anyone know about an all black T-38 that makes periodical stops at airports? Maybe privately owned?

Black T-38s are used by U2 pilots out of Beale AFB for proficiency flying. And you can occasionally see them on cross-country hops to various airfields around the West; mostly military fields.
