View Full Version : Battle over Europe, why not in 1946?

I read it is a 3d party add-on, but it was made by
the makers of FB? I just don't really understand why you still have to pay for it separately and is not included in 1946 DVD.

Also: Are there any other such 3d party add ons? Are they active online?

BoE was made a long time ago by RRG, which developped 1946.

All it is really is a few DGen campaigns and single player missions on the western european maps.

So it's not worth buying? Better downloading good campaign over Europe from M4T then...

There are thousands of user made campaigns and missions available for IL2, som eof them incredibly professionally made.

Check out anything by Icefore or FLatspinman, as I have personally tried these and they are great,

Icefires 'Stormclouds' Tempest campaign is especially good in my opinion

Unfortunatly, the search function doesnt seem to work, at least I cant find Icefires campaigns using it. Maybe others can shed some light onto why not...browse through the campaigns, there are plenty of great ones.

Lowengrins Dynamcic campaign generator is great too. I did find it a little complicated to use manually, but you can replace the ingame generator with it and use it like that instead. That way it generates a campaign automattically ingame without you haveing to do anything else. Just select RAF/USAAF/GERMAN/whatever and then pick DCG in the campaign list.

For online play, download Hyperlobby and browse the servers, there are 1000's of players on every night crerating Coops and playing online battles.

Ok thanks, I go for the static campaigns (icefire and flatspinman then). there was just so many of them that I thought maybe with BoE you get the best in a nutshell.

I prefer static campaigns because of the better written briefings over the dynamic game automatically generated not so immersing briefing. (you agree with this I think) so lowengrin will have to wait.

Thanks again for the fast reply

No problem..

There will be many many more great campaigns made by people from this board, but I havent tried many, only a couple of Icefires and one from flatspinman, so I am not the best person to ask..

I usually play online rather than offline...

Defnitely I can say that Icefires - 'Stormclouds' and Flatspinmands - 'Luftwaffe pilot Afrika' are fantastic.

You will definitely find campaigns by members of this board which are as good as the ones you can buy.

Can some of the guys who play offline most of the time, guys who make campaings, list some of the great ones for Buzzybee?

BoE isn't a bad add-on at all. If you like the DGen campaigns then it's a must have. In a way, though, it's a bit dated. It will work fine with 1946, and if you use the Enjoyr patches there is a specific one for if you have this add-on, but DCG will give you the same thing, even better is some ways.

If DGen isn't your thing, then I wouldn't worry about picking it up. Take Xiolablu's advice and take a look at all the campaigns on M4T. I highly recomend IceFire and Flatspinman's work. In addition, if you like flying over the Pacific, you might want to check out PhilK's Hell in the Pacific series, as well as a few others he's recently completed. In fact, I would have to say that the above three are my favorite campaign makers. I've certainly had memorable missions from them all.

I had to make a spreadsheet at home with all of the campaigns I've downloaded just to keep them straight, I think over 120 now. Pick a crate and a map and you are bound to find a well-designed campaign for it.

The best way to find campaigns is to pick an aircraft you like and look for a campaign for it. There is a thread on the Mission Builders Forum with a lot of campaigns listd.

Get Battle over Europe!

It has so much to give that it is worth a purchase.

You get to fly Spitfire Campaigns (using the RAF download, or latest dgen downloads) in Normandy, dynamic campaigns (rather than the scripted third party campaigns available for free). I've never gotten tired of the variation of the campaigns over Normandy, it has been the area I have most used in off line campaigns thanks to the BoE add-on.

More info/screenshots on the expansion pack. There are far more campaigns available now with the newer dgens, but here is some older information on the type of campaigns that are available:

With the latest dgen you can fly Mosquito, P40, P38 missions and lots more.

The people that made Battle Over Europe (BOE) made a deal with the IL-2 people. They made several maps for IL-2 for free and got the right to make BOE for sale. No American campaigns in Europe for IL-2 were included in IL-2 as part of the deal. I purchased BOE and found it worthwhile.

Yeah, sorry if I gave the immpression I knew anything about BOE - I dont.

I havent got it so I am not in a position to comment on it.

I just know that there are some incredible user made campaigns available.
