What is the procedure to install 4.07 so I can choose and pick which one to play in Hyperlobby? I'm aware of the bat file switcharoo and the French program that does the same but it's the install procedure which I'm confused on.

S!
I have posted a few my answers in the JG2 Mike thread. You have to make a choice on how do you want to install it.

Allow it to install in its' own folder. Do not install it over your current FB folder. It isn't like PF where you had the option to merge it or install it as a stand alone. IL-2 1946 is meant to install as a stand alone. It will install into a different folder than your FB folder installed under Ubi Soft(two words). IL-2 1946 installs under Ubisoft(one word). Then you can copy & paste the folders you want from FB to 1946.<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

Thanks guys. I have it up and running like a Swiss watch now. Confusion over. I finally figured out that the French program, which is pure genius, installs in the 4.07 folder and somehow it finds the FB folder when you click on one of those three icons. That programer definitly has his ducks in a row.

I'm sure glad I didn't try to install 4.07 into the FB folder. I hate creating unnecessary complications which usually take hours and hours to straighten out. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/1072.gif

Yeah I uninstalled my previous FB.... Installed 46.. and set the switcher up with that. Works flawlessly. Ypu can save Gs of HD space by using the switcher and just 46.<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

Either way is fine. Figuring that I have a DVD of the complete game, and also a complete back-up of 4.05m on another rig, I decided to install 4.07 straight over my existing game. I run my flight rig using a single 36Gb Raptor, so I didn't want to overload the limited space by having two versions side-by-side. The install went perfectly.

Some items DO get overwritten. Conf.ini is one - and any special .rcu files . I edited conf to my tastes and restored my old rcu and Iconscript from back-up - a very quick operation. The important part - missions, skins, identities, half-flown campaigns etc - remains as it was in 4.05 http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Enter le Switch and everything is ace. I don't have to make the usual choice of whether to upgrade and leave some mates behind or sit and twiddle my thumbs waiting for them to catch up. I can fly new or old just by double-clicking an icon on my desktop! Wonderful.

B

I just want to make sure I understand you. I go to "Start", "Settings","Add or remove programs" and I see "Il-2 Sturmovik: Forgotten battles", Il-2 Sturmovik: Forgotten battles AEP" and finally, of course, the new "Il-2 Sturmovik 1946".

I can safely uninstall the first two and the French switching program can STILL successfully switch between 4.04, 4.05 and 4.07 so I can play any one I choose in Hyperlobby.???!!! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-surprised.gif I sure hope I read you right. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/10.gif

I will definitely try this if Bearcat replies in the negative to my question. No sense burning up precious hard drive space unnecessarily.

Go to the FB folder and backup your Users & Config folder... everything else will be saved when you remove FB. Actually if I were you I would back up the following folders anyway: Dgen, Ngen,Missions,Paintchemes,Config,Records,Quicks and Users. Back those folder up to another place... that way you will always have them in case of a crash. After yiou have to reconfigure your inputs a few times you will make sure you do that. I have mine on another drive.... along with the rts (which is now no longer needed) and all my HW profiles like VAC,TIR and the stick profiles. Then go to CP add and remove programs. Uninstall FB & AEP.. You will be left with a few folders in the Ubi Soft folder... after you install 46 you will transfer the contensts of those folders to 46... Install 46.. 46 will not install to the same folder. it will install to the Ubisoft folder.... NOT Ubi Soft like FB. Once it installs run it once to make sure you are at 4.07m. Thern take the contents of the folders from FB and transfer them over to the 46 folder. Also transferring your Users & config folder will make sure that you have the same settings. Then get the switcher program..... unzip to a temp folder & install it. Even though it is in French jst follow what you know about installing stuff. You will find 3 icons on your desktop..... click the icons you will see the batch file start up with a brief (@.5 seconds) dos window about the size of a pack of smokes... when you launch the sim it will start in whatever version you selected. You will have to leave the cd in.... there is a new exe file floating around I have heard. If you get hold of it just drop the new exe file into your 46 folder and in the 46 folder of the switch program..... 46 contains all it needs to run either version.. all multiple installs will do is waste HD space......<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

A word of advice from experience. Use the game disk to uninstall with, not the Add\Remove programs listing. The game disk will uninstall everything it put in. Only items left are any extras you may have put in like skins, missions, addons, etc. Then just right click on what's left and delete it.

I have had so much trouble using the Add\Remove to uninstall this sim over the years. Just thought I would share.<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

Thanks scotzzman for posting that link. That little program will link the community whether or not they get the new add-on, and if they do, switch between versions in the mean-time. Essential file IMHO.

Since there's no readme with that file (only an executable), how does one use it?

Being no so savvy on the computer, I'll try to explain:
download the file, unzip it, then there's a part where you enter a path. In that path you should enter the most advanced copy of Il-2 you have, i.e., 1946 or 4.05m, etc. Then it does its thing and you should end up with 2 (4.04, 4.05) or 3 (+ 4.07) new little icons on your desktop. Before you fly, select which version you want, and all is fine with the universe. I hope that helps a little.
