I've been a fan of IL2 for some time now and over the years have tried a half dozen joysticks with an exponentially larger cross section of input settings.

After time I've decided that a combination of the MSFFB2 with an X52 throttle with a mildly aggressive input curve worked best for me although in low speed/ high alpha situations (taildragger takeoff/landing, slow rolling scissors etc.) I still have struggled with pilot induced oscillation.

Having glanced over a thread last week I noticed M_Gunz sharing his profile which was very similar to my own except Gunz was making use and advocating a liberal amount of filter.

I had played with filter and dead zone some time back and returned both to zero as I was under the impression they were only helpful for coaching a bit more life out of a low end worn out stick and would only be hindering response times.

I was very mistaken!

My current preferred settings are...

1X=0 27 38 52 63 69 75 83 88 93 100 20 0
1Y=0 28 44 55 62 70 79 88 93 96 100 20 0
1RZ=5 29 40 48 57 66 76 86 93 97 100 20 0

Two notches to the right on filtering makes a huge difference in fine low speed control, (the notch of dead zone on the rudder I have successfully used for some time to cure unintentional rudder input from a twistgrip in hard maneuvering).

Everyone's flying style and choice of aircraft are different, if it makes a difference I prefer FW190,P47,Tempest etc and my joystick input preferences undoubtedly reflect that.

Regardless, Thanks for the tip M_Gunz. Old dogs do learn new tricks, when you return from "vacation" I'll owe you a cold virtual pint. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif
