Hi evreyone,

Anyone in here use FSX? i'm thinking of buying a copy but i've heard that you need a very fast system to run it on properly. Ive got a p4 3.2 (with hyper threading) 3g of ram and a radeon 9200 card with 256ram. Will it run on my machine or would i be wasting the 44 it costs? Also how much terrain do you get with the game when you buy it?

thanks in advance

some of us dabble in fsx- see

a short answer to your question, i'd say your rig is only just about able to run fsx at low/medium low settings. the eye candy will kill your machine.

if you do buy, install sp1 immediately. then fly, experiment with graphics settings, apply 'tweaks' of which the most important are in above link- and get into the habit of regular defrags.

your gfx card is the weak point in your rig, any improvement here would help.

as for terrain, you get the whole world, the deluxe version has a few more detailed cties, but you will probably struggle with fps around cities.

fsx is a huge sim and can be just as fun/challenging as fb- just in different ways http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

I tried running it on my 2.8ghz, 512 ram, Nvidia 5200 128mb card system. On the lowest settings I was just barely able to get a decent frame rate. I'll be sure to reinstall when I get a new system.

System requirements:Win XP/Vista " Pentium III 1GHz " 256MB RAM " 3D Grafikkort med 32MB RAM " 15GB HD " DVD-Rom.

Find it a bit http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif at least.
Anyway,I saw it was cheap now so I did go ahead and order me a copy, the Deluxe version for 44 USD,now when I got the hardware (C2D E6850/4Gig/8800GTS 640MB) to run it,I hope http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

as stated above a new rig really is needed to see fsx in its full glory.
another option on gfx would be something like
http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX...&catid=56&subcat=403 (http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-137-SP&groupid=701&catid=56&subcat=403)
you do have an agp port don't you?

with either of those cards i'd reckon you'll get to medium settings, maybe just a little higher.both cards would do you no harm in il2 either.

I have a dell xps 710 with 8800gtx 768mb, 2 gig ram a 2.66 dual core and 2 500 gig hard drives,

I run game at 1600x1050 on near max, turning eveyrthing up to max makes it choppy to me if you got a lower end system you will have to turn down detail and some traffic etc, it does not have high system requirments but that must be on very low detail which would not look good, deatail is amazing at settings i run depends on your system bro.

Oh i am running Vista(POS OS) but that allowes DX10.

Running on a laptop hurts you even more, sorry didnt notice that earlier, yeah i think u can run it but no more than medium settings if lucky he is right your GPU is your weak point.

thanks for the info. I certainly can't afford a new rig at the moment but i may just invest in one of those cards, yes my pc does have AVG slot. would it also make a noticeable difference to IL2?

the difference to il2 would be mainly in the ability to play with higher aa/af or higher resolutions. what are your current settings/fps?

it should provide a reasonable boost but the choice of upgrade now or save the pennies for a new rig is always difficult, but if you are not planning on a new rig within a year i'd say it's probably gonna give your rig the best bang for buck.

shop around, there may be better deals available

On the bright side it still looks pretty darn good even on low. I got FSX running almost acceptably (I still prefer FS9 because it's smoother running) on my machine and it's very under powered by todays standards.
