Bit dry this year or is this sort of stuff normal? I always had Florida down as a place that received a good share of rain pretty frequently.

Yup, the smoke's been pretty bad (though not as bad this week as last). I always think it's kinda funny how California burns 600 acres and threatens a couple celebrities' homes and it's all over the news, but we have 2 fires going covering almost 10,000 acres and people are ignorant.

These haven't been as bad as the blazes we had in '98, but they are saying we're in the middle of the worst drought since 1932. I live about a mile from the beach on the East coast so, at my house we have just enough ocean breeze to keep most of the smoke at bay...unless it's swirling.

I have no pictures though.

Which part of Florida is it?

N,S,E,W? Haven't heard about it on UK news....is it a proper fire? Not just another Barbecue out of control http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

No, seriously, haven't heard about them, is it really bad out there?

Good Luck, MP.

It was wierd the other day it was so bad here in Tampa I couldn't see to the end of the block and were a long way from the fires.

We get seasonal rains in Fla. In the summer months it rains about every day and thing grow..grow...grow. Through the winter and spring we are pretty dry, then all that growth drys up and burns.

Nothing too out of the ordinary for Florida. It is the cycle that nature has to take care of unwanted growth. Very natural, very normal. Most fires in Florida are started by lightning strikes.

I use to fly for the Georgia Forestry. A few years ago the Okefenokee Swamp burned 300,000 acres. No one ever heard of it.

There is or just had 10,000 acres burned in south Georgia in the past two weeks.

I live 30 miles or so from FLorida and the visabilt7 here this morning was about 1/2 mile.

This use to be me

I say!! http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_confused.gif Jolly bad show!!! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-sad.gif

Get grip of it over there chaps!! I fly out in a few weeks!!!

It'll be hot enough without you having a fire going!!!!!

As for the drought? Fear not. It'll piss down for two weeks once I arrive. I have my own personal weather front that follows me wherever I go on holiday. Last time I was in Florida Katrina arrived.....sorry. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/10.gif

Here is a doppler radar showing thick smoke from fires. I live as marked and we are less than a 1/2 mile visibility!

In Georgia, more than 350,000 acres have burned because of the numerous wildfires since the middle of April.

The three big fires -- the Big Turnaround Fire, the Bugaboo Scrub Fire and the Sweat Farm Road Fire -- have finally merged into one big fire in south Georgia. The fire is located in Ware and Charlton counties. The Joint Information Center has not yet released how much of the fire is contained, but said the fires have collectively burned 350,556 acres.

The fires in Georgia have caused more than $32 million in damages, not including property damage.

Florida and Georgia line are shown!

Where in Tampa? I fly for Skydive Tampa Bay and there are days that I can see a wall of smoke just moving my way. It's quite a site. We've shut down because of it. It will go from 10 miles visibility to 1/2 mile in an instant.
