How far do you extend away if you have a Russian on your 6. I mean when do you go back to dogfight like when youve gained 2 or 3 Kms?

Cause if you go back to fight, what happens to me is that I end up trying to turn fight to get on his six

what do you guys do in such a situation? What maneuvers are useful?

Cheers

Online, don't extend out, extend up. 109 usually outclimbs any VVS opponent and is better in the vertical. Learn to fight in the vertical and not the horizontal (turn fighting) and always keep your speed up, that is the key. Zoom around looking for someone who is looking at someone else, if you feel outclassed 1 vs. 1, then run, don't be a hero. Offline is a different story, the AI planes have exaggerated flight models that let them climb after you even when they shouldn't be able to, just do your best and always keep your speed up in 109, it is paramount. The one possible exception is the 109F-4 (never use F-2, armament too weak), it can turn fight with most, but not all, VVS planes. Hope this helps.

- Luganski, noticing the top class of his adversary and
- aware that his own aircraft was almost out of fuel,
- realized that he had only one chance of surviving--to
- use the Yak's superior horizontal. The German pilot,
- obviously certain of his success, entered a turn fight... /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-indifferent.gif

Even against the AI, you can always climb away. Use it to your advantage. The only place you should be slow is at the top of a climb. The rest of the time stay fast. Dive, shoot, climb. Over and over. Never, ever fight on the horizontal. NEVER!

If you dive down, and can't get lined up for a shot. Don't chase him. Climb back up, and try again. If you do this, you will never die. As your marksmanship gets better, you will get your kills with no danger.

Spot on Buzz. What's really funny is when you p!ss off all of the Yaks and LA's from BnZing and they ALL come climbing up to get you.

Thanks for your comments.

I fly off-line only at the moment playing the career mode. If i dont turn around and fight, then how long should i extend away - like 5 or 6 kms and then go back? Cause they keep coming at me

Extend UP ( not straight up though) until your run out of speed. Say, somewhere around 220-180 khm, then level off, find a target, dive down, fire, repeat.

Depends on your opponent, some WS planes do to their low E bleed will catch you in your extension. Best to keep a ton of E over you opponent.

never go straight up, but climb smoothly so your speed is steady or you are loosing a little.

if you go verticle, he won't be able to follow you, but he will get close enough to hit you a buncha times, and usually, if his aim is decent, for the kill.

just climb until 3k meters and turn around, dive and bnz his arse to kingdom come.

its fun if you are going about 700 kph, because in online dogfights he will probably be around 350 from turnfighting, so you can buzz him at twice his speed. what could be more fun?
