I am trying to be able to make out all the cockpit guages well so was thinking of using a 42 inch 1080p LCD TV. Anybody use this resolution?

Yeah, runs fine at 1920x1080 on a 46" LCD as well.

That's a very good question,cmorris975.
I think i will by a 24 inch lcd to replace my 19 inch computerscreen.
There aren't that mutch 24 inch 1080p computer screens on the market now,but Eizo is coming with a newone, expensive yes,but probably the best screen to,so,yes,i want one !!!
I just have no idea haw an older game like Il2 will behave in that resolution.
I hope it will look better, but i will have to see,as i have no experience with anything more then a 19 inch screen, perhaps some other members, who do have that experience can enlighten us here !!!

I can recommend a 24" however make sure to buy a 16:10 24" (1920x1200) but also one that 1 to 1 pixel ratio for watching 1080p media or a 360 or PS3. Some of the Dell '08 ones do that as do most of the FP241wz etc BenQ's.

Yeah, I have a 32 inch LCD that maxes out at 1360x768 resolution and with track IR I can make out the guages for the most part but the smaller fuel ones in some planes. I have MS, which has taken out thirty percent of my vision in inconvienent places so even though this screen seems like it should work it still is a bit hard to make out the instruments. I'm thinking of saving up and getting a 46" 1080p LCD TV but I am not sure if that will look good in the first person view and zoomed out in 1920x1080 resolution. Zoomed out in cockpit view can make it look a bit like I am looking though a "fishbowl" with the way it warps the perpective.

Being able to easliy see and use all the guages would be so very cool though...

If you're set on getting a 16:9 24" pc monitor Acer makes an excellent 16:9 monitor in 24". I personally would prefer the 16:10 1920x1200, but if you want the 16:9 the Acer is probably cheaper than the Eizo with a very good quality picture.
