i played the demo, and looked pretty cool
ill pick it up when it comes out here

only thing that bothers me is the performance
as the demo was pretty choppy
CI could you let us know how smooth it runs
and how the SP/MP is improved over COD:UO?

Demo run like a dream for me, 1600x1200 2AA, 2AF pulling around 100fps sometimes dropping to 80s. I am curious myself about MP.. wondering if they come up with the new scenarios. Even if they didn`t...as long there is Base Asault - i am in http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif. I might even look at SP too, because AI seems pretty cool.

yea. thay talor most of these games for people with med/ high end pc's with 200 to 600$ graphics cards ect yet thay feel people are not willing to shell out 30 bucks for a DVD player? i went ahead and bought the directors cut of FEAR wich came on dvd instead of 7 cd's i think it was. pluse bonus content it was worth the extra 10 bucks http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif. planning on getting CoD2 as soon as i can. iv played the first as well as the exp for a long time now.

If I can say something on this subject, I heard form one guy that this is one of the tactic to fight piracy http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/10.gif . Publishing it on many cd makes it les profitable for a pirate to copy it since it takes more time, and of course, more cd.
But in this time of broadband piracy, this countermeasure is useless, in my opinion.

7 cd's, I bet it would take, say, 1 hour extra?

Just that one screen shot say's that it's one game that I will buy!

See you on line soon CrazyIvan.

BTW, why do you American's always get the games first? You still all suck online! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/784.gif

Installed it last night. Trying to get all the settings straight, FPS kind of low even on my system. It`s funny that i was in 100s playing demo and in 40s playing release hehe. But uncle Hunter gave me a couple of good tips, will check it out tonight http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

SP looks good, tough, immercive... i dig it. Too early to say something about MP... Servers are just getting around running it. It`s VERY hard to find a good place to play. Usually takes couple of weeks before they get in order. Tanks and other moving subjects are not available yet for MP.. Looks like few months from now we going to see United Offencive 2 Or something like that that will actually make MP more exciting.

hm, i burned a cd in 3mins and 40secs or something earlier, so 25mins or so of burnin time, plus probably 10mins of hassle. the clever pirate would just dl the dvd image, and the lazy but not as clever one would chuck on a copy of deamon tools and the instructions on what todo...

it does look cool http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

atleast cod2 doesnt seem to have a ghey title.

brothers in arms sounds like a ghey incest pr0n movie to me http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-indifferent.gif
could be subtitled "earned in bumfun"

I bet we are closer to large installs being sold in cartridge form.
A small usb cd/harddrive/flashdrive combination cartidge.

no install. just plug it into the USB port and play.
Sounds strangly Nintendo-ish.

you guys remember Wing Commander series from Origin? They are the ture record breakers in the last centry !!!

Wing Commander 1, 1990: 3 1.2M floppys, at that time most PC has monchrome monitor only.

Wing Commander 2, 1991: 20 1.44M floppys!!!! At that time I bought my first PC, and on the harddisk it has DOS, Windows, SWOTL.... the rest were all ate up by this monster.

Wing Commander 3, 1994: 4 CD!!! I just upgrade my PC with a CD drive at that time, in order to play Rebel Assault. But it is nothing to compare with that uber monster in WC4, it was just too big for its time.

Wing Commander 4, 1996: 7 CD!!! I wonder how they can still break there previous record!!! Bigger than a DVD which is not even a common thing at that time!

Ivan can you comment on the following yet?

- linear campaign play;

- health recharge; and

- any new gameplay elements that make this a new game versus a continuation.

Our Platoon will probably continue with this new release. Just not sure if it is worth picking up personally yet.

crazyivan1970

I`ll try to shed light on some of it TY.

I have never played SP before in any games... so COD2 was pretty much first SP experiance... so i can`t really compare with original. But, anyhow i must say that i am hooked. Offline campaign is just awesome - immersive, rough and not that easy lol. AI is very good IMO. I am stuck at the moment in the beginning of russian campaign, trying to intercept human wave attack from german side with a little success lol.

I have spend very little time online, since servers are getting their act in order and i wasnt too impressed. It usually takes couple of weeks after release before MP gets going.

Just have to warn ya, this game is pretty heavy on the system. Even top of the line machines will have some problems running everything at max. Right now i settled down at 1600x1200 2AA, 2AF with all other setting pretty much maxed out in SP and getting like average of 55-60 FPS. Sometimes it drops down to low 30s, but still smooth. I heard good things about cats 5.11 , so maybe that will help in the future. In MP i had to turn down smoke and some of the visuals from max to normal, but still looks fantastic.

I think it was a good purchase, unlike BF2 which is pretty c$appy game and i considered that one as 50 bucks well wasted hehe.
So far i can sum it up like this, in comparassion with original COD:

Strongest points of COD2:

Visual effects
Graphics
Sounds
AI
Immesion
Campaigns

Weakest points:
Lack of tanks, jeeps, etc in MP (That probably saved for addon)
Lack of good servers, which is temporary and should be corrected soon enough.

So as you can see, new COD is pretty much a winner, at least i think so lol.

Cheers!

Ivan, and maybe without having played the original campaigns much this is a hard question to answer, but do you find more freedom to explore in the campaign missions or are you forced to a rather defined path?

Sounds interesting. Thanks for the post.

TS!

It is hard to answer TY, but i can tell you this... acheiving objectives is a real challenge, then further you get in, then rougher it gets... personally i don`t find any limitations yet... You can take several approaches to complete mission objectives. If that is your question. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif
