View Full Version : Do Newer Versions of SH3 Have StarForce? Heard UBI dropped it...

Been wanting to get this play this game for quite some time, and now that I got a new rig built it's going to be hard choosing between SH3 and Lomac. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

I heard UBISoft is dropping Starforce, which I think is a _very_ good call. My question: Are the newer versions of SH3 StarForce free? I really want to play this game but even more so I want my PC Starforce free.

Used to frequent the Lomac forums a lot...

My guess would be it depended on where you ordered SH3 from, and what that regions stock was like. It must cost a lot of money to do a 'print run' of copies so I'd imagine there are a lot of copies out there of SH3 with Starforce still on it in circulation.

What was the StarForce problem? If I have it I can't identify it, which could be bad.

"StarForce has received criticism for installing its own device driver onto computers."

my problems involved drive id with my spanking new plextor. 3 - 5 minutes to pass security check. funny how it can install the game at max speed without a hiccup.

edit: no version of sh3 was released without starforce.

Okay, who wants in on the action? What odds are you betting on how long it takes for this thread to get padlocked?

Here's a hint, people. Google is your friend.

Um, no. I'm not posting a thread just to have it locked... http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_rolleyes.gif

Thanks for answering my real question zoinks_. Bummer. Wasn't sure if I bought a copy direct from UBISoft whether or not they would have already acted on their wise decision to drop Starforce.

PACACE, note your Starforce games won't work if you remove it, but here's detection and removal instructions FYI. Again, just to recaution you, your SH3 won't work if you remove it.

I'll probably just figure out how to coax WinXP onto a logical partition and just install SH3 on that. That way my primary WinXP partition won't be compromised. Google should help on how to make WinXP play nicely with Linux partitions on the drive...

Thanks again,

Yes, there are ways to get around Star Force, but telling how to do so will get your thread locked.

Yeah, I know. It's a bummer of a situation. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-sad.gif

At least UBI make the right call to drop it from their future games.
