Hello everyone

May I ask, how can I set the programme for practising individual dog-fighting practise.

I know something of the techniques, but I do need practise in the game, on the computer<

Thank you K_Freddie. I have set some 1 v 1's in the QM Builder but they seem to take for ever and sometimes the supposed opposition just do not appear.

If you know of a better way, please do tell me?

I'm afraid to say it, but here's something we all learned pretty quickly:

If you find yourself in a dogfight, you did something wrong.

It's good to know the evasive maneuvers to get out and gain advantage, but you're better off learning to pounce quickly and escape unseen.

What I do Jason, is to use automatic pilot (standard A) to guide me towards my quick mision target, then take over to fight once I see the dot(s)...

That way, you cannot miss them...

Alternatively, if you have mapicons on, you can find the enemy on the map...

Automatic Pilot in a 1946 Spitfire?

Don't think we have any '46 Spits, M8.

Anyway, the autopilot is just a goofy game feature, but it's helpful. Press A and then warp the time forward. You'll be in the thick of 1v1 practice b4 you can say "whaaaa the P47D Late is too good!"

Quick mission builder in ww2..?

http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

but seriously, yes, any plane will pilot automatically towards a waypoint or quick mission enemy, when you press the 'A' key on your keyboard... Then press the 'A' key again to manually fly again...

One thing you learn quite quickly is that a good turning plane is only really useful vs rookie opposition.

Horizontal Classic CLose-in Dogfighting is too dangerous, even in the good dogfighters like the Spitfire and Zero. Its good for defense, but if the other pilot is any good, turning hard will only put off the inevitable.

If he is any good he will simply abort the shot this time, climb and keep his energy. YOu have just lost a bundle in that hard turn and are even more of a sitting duck now.

May I had better forget the do-fighting and get back to Flt.Sim 2004 and the airliner business!!

Jason, don't ditch the game because of the people here who are telling you how you should play it. Just play the game how you want to play it. With the help you've been given here you should be able to do that now. If you then want to go on and change the way you play, like some others have suggested here, then you can do that too. Just have fun with it, however you want to. That's my opinion.

Not everyone has the same view as PBNA and Xio as concerns 'dogfighting'. Considering real life, sometimes local air superiority is required, maybe you want to protect a bridge against bombers, or keep the baddies off your ground attack birds... if this sort of scenario is what turns your crank 'close-in' dogfighting may be required to fufill your mandate as a fighter squadron... no time or space to try and blast unsuspecting bandits and then zoom off into the high distance... simply because you don't wish to run risks. Air superiority missions require you stay and contest the airspace.

Turn on the plane icons in the quick mission builder, when you start flying just fly straight until you see the bandit icon. Look over at the SimHQ site for lots of good articles on air combat tactics, in here you will read as well that learning the close in tactics first is not a bad idea, and <then> progress to the Boom n Zoom stuff as we tend to call it (what Xio and PBNA are talking about generically). My 2c....

Just hit A for autopilot and ] for time fast forward, then when they're close enough,go back to normal time by hitting [ and hit A to turn off autopilot.

You can get into a dogfight in about 8 sec. w/ time at 4X. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif

Of course dogfight if you want to http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif, I used to love turn and burn on 334th server in a Ki84.

The comments about dogfighting are meant to give a point in the right direction if you want to be really successful, not a YOU MUST DO THIS set of points http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif.

If my post sounded too 'anal' then I apologise. Just trying to help.

Play the game how you want of course. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Jason, when you set the AI plane you have to remember to set NUMBER of planes too.

If you set Spitfire as enemy but there is a "0" near the AI difficulty you won't find enemies in flight.

In case use the map icons to see your enemy's position.
