Sorry to post this but please hear me out.

You guys have to check out Hidden & Dangerous 2, it may be the most impressive game I have played to date. I just finished the Norway campaign and I am now in the deserts of Africa. The graphics are AMAZING.

A general lands at an Italian airfield in a Ju-52 which looks incrdible. There are Macchi-200's all over the airfield and a Stuka. As my squad and I were fighting it out from a distance I saw a pilot run to his airplane, takeoff, and moments later he came back and strafed me!

You guys have to see the level of detail in this game to believe it (the screenshots don't do it justice at all). The attention to detail is incredible and you will be able to tell right away that the developers put some serious time into making this game. You can outfit your four-man (which you pick from a pool of 30) squad with alot of different authentic weapons, uniforms, explosives, grenades, compass, binoculours, wire-cutters & more. But you have to pay attention to different members skills, strength (how much equipment can be carried), endurance, etc. There is even a number in meters that tells you the approximate distance you may be seen from depending on stance, lighting, pace, etc. I've seen bullets riccochet off helmets (and the helmet falls off), pieces of ice breaking off and falling into the water, soldiers who are shot tumble into ditches, soldiers trying to push a truck out of the snow, soldiers at the top of a snowy cliff carrying crates toward a sub only to drop them and pull out their rifles when seeing you. There is too much to mention and this is only when I was in the Norway campaign. The desert looks incredible and there is still Burma, western Europe, and I believe a campaign involving the Russians as well.

I have never posted about a game before but it is one of those rare games that I feel would be criminal to miss. It is 100-times better than Call of Duty IMHO (I have both). As most of you are simmers, you will appreciate how realistic this game is. H&D2 doesn't have nearly the marketing presence that Call of Duty had and many will pass this by or will simply never hear of it. Do yourself a favor and check this game out, it really is amazing.

As a note, I have not experienced a single bug. Also, the interface takes some getting used to but that is only because this game is so detailed. Now that I have the hang of it, its great.

Anyway, I just felt I had to mention this. I really hope some of you will check this out, you'll thank me for it. /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

Will I like it even if I hated H&D?

In H&D, the mission briefings always seem to say "sneak over here and do this", but actually seem to mean "walk around and kill everything". I could never get anywhere hidden, and found the game extremely frustrating.

On the other hand, I've really enjoyed the call of duty demos, just because I always know what's going on and it's so atmospheric.

So how does the H&D2 gameplay compare to H&D?

XyZspineZyX

Yes the graphics are pretty impressive but so are the bugs!

Lost count as to how many CTDs I've had and the stupid pilot in the 3rd Norway mission kept getting stuck in the map. Theres the old AI shooting through trees (ie they can see you but you cant see them) issue as well which sucks.

Another minor irritation is that the trees are made from concrete or steel or something because you can't drive through them or chuck a gren through them. Not to mention that killing tanks is tedious and frankly ridiculous (only killable through the exhaust).

Have you played multiplayer? Well I have ....er tried. But again I get CTDs, some servers crash, some servers I can't join, laggy as hell and should lets face it NEVER should been released IMHO.

Ah well rant over :P

I hope the patch fixes a whole bunch of stuff because regardless of above rant I'm still not through with it :P

i went for a demo but looks like none was released, that's more than a good reason for me to never try this game out leave alone buying it i hate it when they don't release demos... anyway you talking realism here i tried out that call of duty piece of crap demo all fps fans praised as the most relistic ww2 game they ever played... just wanted to mention a few "features"

- hp based "damage models", enough to nearly make me puke
- pick up a medi kit and get insta-healed, i actually puked on this one
- look down and you cant see you feet, well at least i didnt puke on them /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif
- and the ai on my: script based routines advancing to next stage depending on player actions that's what i call an "ongoing scenario"

my opinion is, and i fear it will never be changed, fps are made by ******s for ******s, oooops, no offence meant here matey just joking, perhaps this h&d2 thing might leave me impressed if i had a chance to play it, but these games i fear had better be left to the kids, that's the kind of audience they belong to i think

now you can hate me! /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

Can you play from the 1st person perspective?

That picture with the sniper rifle makes me think you can. I played a little bit of the original H&D but it kept crashing so I stopped.

Is it easier to handle the guy in first person view than the former H&D?(which is great too)

Just to answer a few questions.

You can play in 1st person or 3rd person view. I only play in first person view and that is what the game seems to be meant for. It plays/controls alot like other FPS games with different stances, lean left/right keys, and a new feature is that you control your running/walking speed with your mouse-wheel (or whatever you set it at). You can sprint very fast but you will get tired quickly depending on your endurance skill and how much you are carrying. And of course being winded effects your aim. Overall I find the controls in H&D2 to be as good if not better than in any FPS game. The hard part is getting used to controling your-squad mates, but after a very short time you will be doing it easily. One warning, the default key-assignment setup is very strange IMHO, I just set the keys to match other FPS games.

As to how it compares with H&D1? It doesn't. H&D1 was terrible IMO, I hated it. This game is similar in name only, it is a completely different experience. The briefings are excellent and moving around stealthily is a must. If you try to run around and shoot everything you will die fast. The game stays true to the objectives as well, do what it says and it will be complete. There is a "carnage" mode which just means that you can play through the campaign but in order to complete your mission you have to kill every soldier, but I am just playing standard campaign at the moment. There is also a "lone-wolf" mode which lets you play through campaign trying to do it on your own. These options give the game some re-playability IMO. As compared to COD and atmosphere, I would say COD has a movie-like atmosphere where H&D2 has a very "real" feeling atmosphere. Like I said I have both, and I can't stop playing H&D2, while I barely touch COD. I just prefer the realism, attention to detail, graphics, and squad control of H&D2. Where the atmosphere shines in H&D2 is the animation of the soldiers, you will find them doing everything from painting/washing, to sweeping and walking guard dogs and such. It is very believable and immersive.

As far as having COD, I got it the day it came out, which was 2 or 3 days ago at EB.

jojoshooter, thanks for the support. Wait until you get to the Africa campaign, you are going to poop your pants.

Lerxster, sorry you are experiencing bugs, I haven't had one yet and I hope I am in the majority. I'm glad you will stick with it though, it is certainly worth it. I disagree a little bit as I had no problem with the pilot getting stuck or with enemies spotting me too easily (or through tress). I almost always see them first and I often hide behind trees when attacked. And I believe that you shouldn't be able to drive a vehicle through trees or throw a grenade through them. Haven't tried multiplayer yet but will soon. Again, sorry you are having difficulties but I hope you stick with it.

Garbazz, just because there is no demo you shouldn't miss out on this one. I agree COD realism is a complete joke. Try H&D2, it is very realistic and is more like a simulation IMHO. It reminds me a little of Operation Flashpoint in a way. Please give it a try, this game certainly wasn't made by "******s" and I don't hate you. /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif Give it a try, you will be impressed I guarantee it.

Thanks for listening.

Crazybell, it is a new game and sells for $49.99 I believe (worth every penny). I'm not sure what you mean by too graphic but you can turn blood on and off if that is what you mean.

That brings me to another great feature, you can steal enemies uniforms and go in disguise but your entire uniform has to be (shirt/pants, backpack, and weapons. Even if you are carrying an allied weapon it will give you away unless it is a small weapon placed in your backpack (which will make it unusable until placed in pouch (which will then give you away again). If you kill someone their uniform is useless as it has blood on it. You must force them to surrender by fear (surprising them or shooting rounds over their head) or even by shooting their weapon out of their hand. Knifing them soils the uniform. There is even a meter than shows how your disguise is holding up. The more enemies that are nearby the faster it drops. Fire your weapon and it drops completely but then slowly replenishes. Wear the wrong helmet/cap with the wrong uniform (ie: standard steel helmet with officers uniform) and it will drop quicker. Good stuff. You can also pick up bodies and move them so you don't give yourself away.

I think H&D2 has better graphics IMHO, you really have to see them in game.

Fenna, that was an early screenshot so who knows. In the manual it lists the MP-44's production date as 1944 so this screenshot may not be accurate. The attention to detail is very good in this game so like I said, there may be no tiger or STG-44 in Africa (1942 in game). I did run into a tank in the first mission in the African campaign and it was not a tiger, it was a panzer. And I definitely didn't see any STG-44's around.

RedDeth, it is 100% a first person shooter. The command over squad-mates is awesome. Some of the commands include: Advance (they will advance in the direction you are facing), Advance over there (area designated by crosshair), fire on my lead (they will hold fire until you shoot), Silent attack/fire at will (only those with silenced weapons will attack, cover fire (mates will fire randomly to cover you as you move), and there are more. What I like is the action command. You put your cross-hair on something like a gun nest, door, dead soldier, etc, and hit the action command and more options will appear like "use" (soldier will run to mg and use it), take weapon/ammo (soldier will take stuff off dead soldier), or "open" (mate will open door). There are alot of commands like this, its pretty impressive.

Well there were PZKW VI fighting in tunis, better know as Tiger I tanks.
By the way all german tanks are panzers, its german for armour. StG44 was produced in 1944, it came out of the Stg43 witch as made in 1943, same gun same round 7,92X39mm, just a minor modifications.
The gun in the picture ain't a StG44 its way to long, It could be a FG42 (Fallschirmjagergewehr 42) but then the sight at the end of the barrel isnot correct.

Well its just a game, so who cares /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif
