Odin_1964 Here:

Now wait a minute. Are you saying there is some Freak-A-Zoid Out there in what looks to me like some sort of Modified Japanese Zero who is dropping Timed Aerial Bombs, that don't explode on impact, but that kills what ever gets within the blast area?????

is this on a dogfight server with unsuspecting opponents? or on a friendly server, more or less setting up the shots?

either way, it was AWESOME!

You can set a delay for bombs in the arming screen. The bombs will go off after the delay. There is no modification here. I've made a few kills, and been killed myself, from being in the bast radius of some bombs. He just found a creative way to use it. I've heard of folks setting up short range and delay for rockets as well for use against bombers online. It works really well.

Also, my Japanese plane recognition skills are lacking, but that looks like a Ki-84 "Frank", though the Zero can carry bombs as well.

1. Many of the clips are from Dogfight servers.

2. I applaud the technique, as air-to-air bombing takes a little practice to master. Once you've got the angle down and the release point when the bomber is at a specific point of your gunsight, then it becomes easier. I've used this method several times in the past for TB3s and B29s.

3. The film reveals two of the major errors in the game:

a. If you dropped a bomb with a delayed fuse and it physically struck another plane midair, it wouldn't just magically "stick" to the plane until it exploded. It would cause physical damage from the collision and continue to fall until the timed fuse ignited the bomb. All bombs in this game must come in physical contact with an object or come to a stop during skip bombing, before the timed fuse starts counting down.

During the deck chases, as the tracks are taken from his perspective, you see the delay (two puffs of dirt fly up as the bombs hit the ground, then a few secs later they explode).

If they were taken by another pilot on a third-party server, their track would show instant explosion graphic upon ground contact, but the effect would come 2-3 seconds later, the same as the delay he has set.

b. The 250kg bombs of the Japanese planes have been shown to be very over-modelled in blast radius. There were a few threads around here on the subject, but some will remember them. This is why the Ki is best-used for this particular tactic.

4. Although, suckering a guy behind you to follow close while you drop timed bombs is neat, smart pilots should never fall for that tactic. As soon as I'm chasing a guy who still has bombs under his wings and he dives for the deck, I just watch for him to drop the bombs and climb over the blast, then proceed to finish the job.

He is using at least a 2-3 second delay and that is more than enough time to escape the blast radius, as I would never follow him down that low to begin with, but maintain a nice cushion above him as I trap him below.

Neat film though. I enjoyed it. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif

Pretty good break down, Slickstick. The plane is the KI84b&c. Footage was captured from various dogfight servers. 95% of my bomb kills are various planes not bombers. Bomber Air Kills are just more fun to watch. IL2=Nasty=Bombs! Vol.2 (Bangin Betty) has 3 nice kills in it. As well as an opening kill drop in a squad match in IL2=Nasty=USL_W2. Take care S~

PS. For you skeptics: absolutely, positively none of my bomb drops are staged.

What a show! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/clap.gifBTW,thats happend to me and I picked up on this and used it on unsuspecting enemies as well.As SlickStick mentioned,it will teach you to keep well above the deck when on an enemies six,and he's got bombs attached.

It's a exploit of a game error.
Not a chance such a thing could work in a real life situation.

It`s not all that amazing. I was caught once (I made the dumb mistake of following an aircraft laden with bombs low) by Fooltrottle by this tactic. Once you catch on it never happens again.

This is the sort of tactic that mainly works on arcade target-rich servers where evereyone`s too busy Ramboing it so it`s easy to catch pilots out, especially if they follow in a row chasing behind like dumb AI!

From the arrows on the side i`ll bet its an arcade possibly no cockpit server too. Explains why he`s so accurate predicting drop times and hits. Nothing like as easy in cockpit-only servers. Especially dropping on flying aircraft.

Also, I agree with SlickStick that the explosion bomb radius appears far too wide for the type of bomb dropped and why is it that friendly aircraft appear unaffected when the bogeys fall to pieces? Is this an arcade damage setting?

On a slightly related point, I read that a German fighter squad in real WWII did experiment with dropping bombs on B17s and had some success.

I didnt mean to sound like I was being sceptical, I have used the drop'n'bag technique many times while being chased.

I meant dropping the bombs onto bombers in mid-air was creative.

Raedener ,fooled me last week with that, was chasing him in a P51 MkIII on UK1, he was in a Do335 and the bomb was inside his belly so you couldnt see he had one. annoyed me pretty much.
but after this im not gonna go chasing Do335s low any more.

I watched this over at the 1C site. Very entertaining. I think that dropping your bombs and letting the enemy fly through the blast is called sourbombing. I heard that term somewhere before. Good movie

BTW...did you ever get the "Nasty64 is definitely a vulcher" message http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

Fun video indeed! I really liked those shots of headons when you had to calculate even more carefully when the plane passing you will come into the blast.

I remeber once destroying two incoming TB3s without shot fired - loaded my 109E4B on early eastern map with 4xSC50 and with incredible amount of luck happened to hit both times. Was on UKD2 with locked cockpit but enabled externals.

It's all good Xiolablu I did not at all take your post as skeptical. There have been others that have taken this movie way to serious and accused me of Hax, cheating and setting up the moves with squad members. Like I would ask the PE2 to fly into the clouds!! LOL

The footage comes from various servers which were in fact open pit. It all can be done in closed pit settings and it is obviously much more difficult. Anyone can duplicate the moves with some practice (sometimes alot of practice hehe). After several thousand bomb drops I am a little better at it than a newbie http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

In regards to the few scenes in which the bombers get hammerd before wheels up. I agree with everyone that wacking bombers (bomb vulching) is not very nice at all. But the footage in fact fits the title. At the end of the day its a game. The video is also purley for the fun of the game. I thank you guys for your constructive comments.
