View Full Version : The Animus-an allusion to Carl Jung?

so yeah i know everyone knows Animus means spirit or mind, but I don't think anyone's ever connected it to the Swiss psychiatrist, Carl Jung.

In his school of analytical psychology (the apprehension and integration of the deep forces and motivations underlying human behaviour), Jung believed the Animus (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anima_and_animus), or anima, to be the "unconscious or true inner self of an individual", as opposed to the persona, or outer aspect, of the individual.

This may not be what Ubisoft was going for though because Jung also believed that in the male, the anima is a feminine personality, and vice versa for females.

Also, Altair could be thought of as Desmond's inner personality, obviously not female though, and so through the Bleeding Effect, Desmond is letting his inner personality out.

Eh... It doesn't seem that Jungian to me.

>_> Animus is the male part of females in Jungian Psychology...

Well... Animus is a male Latin noun anyhow... but the Animus has a girl's voice... why do electronics always have girl voices? >_> Brain trailing off to comic (http://zekarmisama.deviantart.com/art/The-Voice-of-the-Animus-99942256)

I really wonder why too, but I like it when it's done perfectly, and I liked it in AC and in Time Shift but I hated it in Crysis, the male voice sounded more approprite in it

@kax: the majority of electronics have female voices as electronics and gadgets are still seen as mainly for men. so it goes back to the old advertising method of put a woman there with big boobs and men will buy it. just instead of using an image they use a female voice.

altho my satnav had a male voice but I put it on because it shouted at you and i thought it was funny. altho I know some1 with a similar addon for his cars turbo that basicaly keep calling him and shoting at him to drive faster. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/88.gif
