It vanished months ago due to a misunderstanding with an ISP and no backup.

There have been some rumours about it's return and we still live in hope http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

The webpage had been under construction and was in Beta for a while. It is now a blank white page with the URL name, presumably as a place holder

There was a big discussion and a lot of drama a few months back (Il2skins has been down for more like a year or more now) about skin sites. A lot of people gave such a negative response to the return of Il2skins that I would not be surprised if Steve (Sharx, the guy who ran the site out of his pocket) has decided that his limited free time is best spent doing something that people might appreciate. Some of the opinions voiced here about Il2skins' return were so negative and hostile that frankly it p!sses me off that "adults" could bite the hand that fed them so easily. There are even a few clowns who actively bad-mouth il2skins to the point that it's plain they have an agenda. It's all so stupid and childish. A great, great resource, one that was considered indispensable at the time of it's loss, was crumpled up and tossed away like a used kleenex

Basically recent public opinion was "We don't want and/or need Il2skins to return, because we have other resources now". Well the problem is that this attitude espouses the same situation that we had when we lost il2skins! The more quality skin sites the better. Folks here can be singularly short-sighted. There was also a lot of gnashed teeth and hurt feelings amongst skinners due to related issues. I received a PM from one, a lengthy rant about how I had posted something negative about him in his opinion, and he'd like to give me his adress so we could have a fistfight. He doesn't think I got the PM but I did; he deleted it pretty quickly, to his credit. But that gives an idea of how high passions and tempers were flaring about skinning a few months back. I won't mention his name because I think he's a pretty good guy; but often creative people are very thin-skinned and take offense easily. So I never held it against him. But still, he doesn't post here anymore. He honestly felt that everyone was ganging up on him, to paraphrase. I think it's kind of silly, letting the opinions of folks on a game forum dictate your actions, but I find my opinions aren't always popular. I'm the "head straight for the trouble" kind of person myself http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif You see the problem, you address it, you move on. You don't let IT move YOU on. Like this post, for example. Gauranteed somebody will either publicly or privately choose to let my post offend them. That's their priveledge, they're welcome to it http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif

Here, here.

It's sad that anyone would want to resort to fisticuffs over a computer simulation, even for a minute.

I miss il2skins like I miss Sturmovick Technika, IL 2 Center and the plethora of other great sites that have fallen by the wayside.

Flying Legends may be instituting a $10.00 yearly membership for the priviledge of unlimited downloading. Non-members will be limited to 3 downloads daily IIRC. Ah commerce, don't ya' just love it.

The email i got from FL mentioned the reason that they might start the subscription service is because not enough people click on the free ads that are on the site.I know i have been guilty of this.So it might be a good idea to visit the site and click on the ads http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

Well I was a click-a-holic (apologies to Chuck there), and was told by Dean that it didn't do any good as the advertiser felt it was "click spamming" and FL didn't get as much revenue.

Go figure.

I have to agree with Chuck on this one. As a skin cataloge, it was second to none (nobody else even comes close to the listings and sorting ability IL2Skins had), but there were other skin sites and still are. I don't get the negativity either. I guess it's a mute point now, though....
