So it???s July 1943 and I???m surfaced in my IXC, cruising west of Spain at night, when I get ???radar signals detected.??? I quickly dive to P depth and, just for fun, go to free camera to see what???s up. Pretty soon here comes a DD, heading for my location. Feeling pretty casual about any danger, I bump up TC to watch his movements. Well the sucker pings right in on me and, despite my best efforts, proceeds to harass me pretty accurately. Now I???m concerned. Bad enough that he seems to know where I am, but then he calls in some help; a plane comes in and starts depth-charging me too (I???m still watching all this in free camera). Together they???re making things pretty tense, so during one of the DD???s close passes I line up under him and order flank speed to try to make a move in his blind spot. Well just at that moment the plane, still trying to get me, unloads several bombs right on top of the destroyer. Who promptly blows up and drives sharply under the surface bows-first, full speed, right at me! I order hard a-port but in about one second he???s nearly vertical and hits my conning tower a glancing (thankfully) blow on his way down. Result: flak guns destroyed but no major internal damage.

Wow, never seen anything like that before. Things can sure get interesting out there???

That reminds of a similar strange thing which happened to me a while ago.

A was cruising at the surface with heavy fog all over.

Then suddenly a DD comes out of the fog directly behind me , closes in rams me directly from behind pushes my boat to over 20 knots http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_eek.gif then lifts himself out of the water by sliding onto my boat and finally pushes me underwater http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_eek.gif

It then passed my boat (screeeechh) destroying my flak guns , deck gun and complete conning tower stuff. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/touche.gif<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

Remember that the DDs may have RADAR and detect you in the fog. In the plain version of the game, somtimes the DDs (espacially the V&W) used to sink after ramming the Uboot http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif. Probably due to their own damage.

Can you get home with that kind of damage? Is it still possible to man the bridge crew?

On a brighter note, the pendulum is in the opposite direction for me right now. It is currently generating liners everywhere, which is ridiculous. Every decent size convoy has got one.

I remember one patrol where I incurred a totally destroyed bridge. The game would not let me post a bridge watch. It is possible to get home with such damage, but I would assume that the possibility is related to the time of the war. My patrol was in '40 or early '41, near Rockall Bank. I had fired all of my remaining torpedoes in a convoy action but incurred heavy damage from depth charges. When I was finally able to surface I couldn't post a bridge watch. What I did to get home was sail submerged by day and ran full speed on the surface at night. Using this method I was able to evade detection. However, later in the war when the Allies have radar everywhere this method may not work. I've been lucky enough not to have had to try this method in the later war years.

In real life I'm sure they would have found a workaround. After all, there are still the other hatches in the foreward and rear hulls. It may not have been comfortable, but surely they'd have been able to post a few men up top in spite of a wiped out bridge?<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

Yeah, ??????The ???psychic??? DD???s can be irritating, but sometimes it does go in your favor.

Just today, I was working in on a convoy (Late 1941) that was escorted by a Clemson, a V&W, and two Flower Class. Conditions were lousy; ??????Medium fog and precip, with 15 mps wind.

All of a sudden, both Flowers foundered in the heavy weather! (3/4 sunk, with their bows pointed towards the sky!)

I did the other two escorts, and had my way with the convoy: ???.Really pretty gratifying!

I take it this request is for enhancing the 4th Flotilla ? I am thinking about joining, it sounds like alot of fun. Plus, if most members come from <b style="color:black;background-color:#a0ffff">UBI[/b], it will be full of nice people, and make the experience much more enjoyable.

Also, I think having you as our "Boss Man"would be cool too http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif http://foolstown.com/sm/shv.gif <div class="ev_tpc_signature">

klcarroll I saw something similar to yours not long ago. I was tracking a convoy through a heavy storm not far from Gibraltar. The first time I got a visual on them, one merchant was already half awash and soon went under on its own. I did some damage and then hung around to finish off stragglers after the escorts had moved on. When I caught up with the main body again, 3 out of 4 escorts were foundering just as you described. One of them eventually sank, without my touching it. Some storm!

Kaleun1961

Had the same thing happen to me. I attribute it to some kind of bug in the game coding, possibly related to the convoy materializing once you have detected it. Seems unexplainable otherwise as to how they managed to get that far and then magically, just as you appear on the scene, they lose their ability to weather the storm. Coincidence? I don't think so.<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

Hmmm, very funny stories, this reminds me of a time i was playing online.

I was about 20 - 30 metres under a battleship that had taken torpedoes and lisping heavily to the side, as another of the u-boats fired at it it hit the Battleship and sunk it right as i was under it, the battleship capsized and started to sink on me, at that time i was trying to get away but got caught under it and it dragged me down to the depths of the sea over 1000 metres, i ended up bein crushed by the pressure...i was loughing for ages!
