Well I got 126 and was cuious enough to look up Wikipedia to see that this puts me in top 10% and 'officially' "Bright".Verbaska must be seriously bright(especially if english isnt his first language as his name suggests) !Some of the descriptions that apply to the different categories include "Idiot" and "Profundly ******ed" (seriously!)so you might not want to try this long (10-20mins) brain teasing test if youre feeling below par!!!
Raaaaid favourite for community's first "savant"?!

High enough not to pay someone for the results http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif at the Mensa test I had 130 something.. not bad for someone that havn't had math since he was 15 http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif (I studied to be a chef!)

Congrats, we both shine equally brightly.
Ditto for me at 143.
However, this was during my early high school years, my 'formative' years, so to speak.
25 years down the line, with a fair amount of excesses with booze, and other substances along the way, its sure to be a bit lower now.
Yes, it does apparently drop as one kills off brain cells with drink, smoke, etc.
I'd be intersted to now what mine is now.
On second thought, maybe not.

Interestingly, IQ testing sites are among the most notorious categories of booby-trapped browser listings, up there with medical sites and the dirty raincoat brigade. Malware writers do have an ironic humour it seems.

It's enough for me to know I'm quite bright, in a 'fading gracefully' kind of way http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/88.gif

Why start a thread to brag about IQ? I imagine this is in light of the thread in ORR.

mortoma

Got to be something wrong with the test, ( too easy ) can't be that many people in the 130 to 145 category. Either that or many are lying. If you have an I.Q. of 140, you are in the upper .2 percent of the world population. Many in here are claiming over 130, so there must be something wrong. Highly unlikely that so many who post in here are that smart. The average should be more like 100 to 110 or so.

All my life I have been surrounded by people who claim an I.Q. over 130, literally everbody and their uncle too. What a joke, absolutely impossible. If it's true that so many are above average or mean, then what would the statistical bell curve look like?? Impossible............

mortoma
09-16-2007, 08:38 AM
By the way, before I clicked on this thread I knew there was going to be an inordinate amount of people claiming 130 or higher!! I knew it, it never fails. Every I.Q. thread you see everywhere on the net is like that. And coincidentally, my mother, father and all of my brothers always claimed huge I.Q.s too. The whole thing is insanely ridiculous, always has been.

bigbossmalone
09-16-2007, 08:50 AM
Well, I claimed 143 (-the obligatory 2 points for spelling mistakes) http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif
Keep in mind, however, that this was the result of a test done while I was in high school, Standard 7 locally, equivalent of Grade 9, UK.
I have never had a general IQ test since, a few specific tests for a job application in 1991, high-level national security grading for a local arms manufacturing company, Armscor. I was told that my my IQ level is well above average. I, personally, have no idea how it all works - just going on what those 'in the know' have told me.
As I mentioned as well, it's probably gone down a fair amount over the years - results of various indulgences/excesses - optimistically, I would put myself in the 100-110 bracket?
At the end of the day, I don't think it really matters that much. As long as I'm able to comunicate well with others, can read and understand some pretty long words, and have no problem doing daily crossword puzzles/word games, I'm satisfied.
The old saying, 'what's in a name?' comes to mind...what's in a number?
Just to try and impress you all here, I have given the highest number applicable to me, that I have been informed of. I consider myself intelligent, but not exceptionally so.
Thats all from me in this thread...
G'day folks!

Face it---anybody who advertises their IQ is either (1) a liar, or (2) a fool, and those who don't are either (1) truly intelligent, or (2) afraid they are not. I haven't seen anybody advertising their IQ since I was a junior in high school in 1968-9.

Well...when I was younger i was curious to see what my IQ was (knowing that i have above average intelligence)
I applied for the Mensa test... The first part is a paper you take yourself at home...you are advised to time yourself correctly and obviously if you do not...you are only cheating yourself...I sent it back with the payment

I was told I had scored 145 (in the top 1%) and invited to a full test in a room with other applicants and obviously properly timed and organised....

I scored 135 (in the top 2%)...not enough for Mensa membership though

I knew I didn't cheat in the home test...and also that I was a bit nervous and flustered in the organised test...so i decided to round it off to 140 (for my personal interest only)

I see there are plenty of books in the magazine stands with IQ tests....so I think it would be possible to practise and improve ones score...but I am satisfied with mine as I went into it cold without any preperation

I regard Mensa with pure contempt and disgust, their newest tests are a total joke. I perused some of the typical questions they now have on their test and was awestruck at some of them. They had questions, quite a few, on musical notes and other similar subjects, such as old classical music composers. Those types of questions could garner your knowledge but not intelligence!! Knowledge and intelligence are somewhat intrinsically linked because one needs at least a certain amount of knowledge ( like knowing how to read and do basic math ) in order take an I.Q. test successfully in the first place. But after that there are finite lines to be drawn between the two.

A case in point being someone that is indeed very intelligent, but had little or no interest in music and therefore never studied it. By Mensas current standards, that person would not be considered intelligent?? This is why I can conclude that the latter day Mensa standards are bogus and idiotic. I'll have nothing to do with them and they can shove their ludicrous tests. I totally dismiss them in their ability to judge anyone's intelligence. I can only conclude that they feel someone with no inclination towards musical knowledge is a moron. Are they judging people's intelligence or personal preferences, likes/dislikes? Maybe the head of Mensa is classical music lover that snobbishly feels people with no musical training or interest are rubes? In that case they are being biased, and therefore inaccurate in their judgments as to which traits show intelligence and which do not.
