Me262 get a lot of attention but the BI-1 nothing.

I wonder why.

Is the BI-1 not fun to fly?

Have you ever flown it?

Its probably because no one really knows anything about it, so they dont get that historic buzz flying it that they get from other planes.

Most of the attention the Me-262 gets that he's referring to has little to do with a historic buzz...

BI-1 never even saw combat. I think you`d know if you flew it a few times.

I see...

Yes indeed!

Historical background that covers the fact about the plane in mission combats is important.

It gives the plane a little more "spirit".

It takes ages to turn so BnZ is only real tactic to use Its Quite good fun but will tuckunder in a dive. Got skis on it in winter too!

I flew this plane on an unlimited ammo server once and I downing everyone. /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif Well, untill people got the hint and everyone was flying BI-1's. I think it's the only plane in the game with its thrust>weight because it can fly straight up. Anyone have any info on why the plane violently nose-downs at >800 kph?

What is the highest possible thrust we can put in the lightest possible airframe. Or something along those lines.

How high can you fly the BI-1 in FB?

I've noticed its tendency to nose over at about 800kph as well. What does it do if you fly upside down at that speed? Can you? (no carburettors to go dry)

Because the real ones did. The airframe suffered from some rather nasty high speed handling problems. Nearly (actually did?) kill some test pilots finding this out....

It was quite funny- I got to 17,000+ metres in the Bl1! I've also noticed the problem with the speed. Try taking the Bl1 up to altitude and nose down with the engine at full power. Surprisingly the wings do not fall off and the plane stays intact. Instead it flies inverted, levels off and then flies forwards for as long as the speed is still up. Its quite strange. IMO I quite like the Bl1- its the only Russian plane that can truly challenge the Me262 (in the QMB anyway /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif )

Theres not really much flight information tech charts out there on the b1 that can be easily accessed. In FB you can kill 262s with them pretty easy.

When the plane starts to nose down at 800km/h you can simply invert the plane and it will start to level off.

XyZspineZyX

yeah you would think when it nosed down it would rip the elevators off.

Theres also no buffet at all, reach 720 instantly headed to the ground in a red out then flying back up in the airinverted.

no, it sucks, not enough fuel, not enough bullets, and no bombs. No fancy cockpit and no one has ever seen on in a B&W WWII movie.

It's basically built like a rocket. Why should the elevators rip off? It's the wings that take most of the pressure in high-speed turns, and look at what little surface area they have. Just my impression on a first thought that it could take those high-speed maneuvers.

In general I've not found the fuel to be all that limiting, to be honest.

With a full load, it seems to run for roughly 6 minutes if left on all the time. Not bad, but it could be better.

Here's the trick though...

The plane is so fast in climb and acceleration that you don't need to run the engine full time. I tend to use it to boost to altitude out of range of everyone else, then cut the engine and make a diving pass on my target.

Let your forward speed carry you clear of their guns and then pull the nose up, light the engine and then boost out of range again.

Lather, rinse, repeat.

Using those tactics running out of fuel is rarely ever a problem. I've hung around in combat for 15 or 20 minutes at a time doing it that way. Really the most limiting factor is the small supply of ammo.

It's a usable plane, but you must hit what you aim at.

Fuel is not a problem, as a 60% setting will last for 15 to 20 minutes IIRC. That's longer than most of my flights in a K4 with a kill or two AND an RTB. Ammo is BI-1's the biggest shortcoming for me, but mainly because my aim is often beyond lousy. I spray and run out, and then land. Again.

I got it up to about 33km. I hope someone will model the He-280. Then we can have dogfights between 2 early jet planes.
