I mean the supermarkets have 'em from Spain or Italy (I don't buy the Mexican ones). Smelly p*ss time is back. Darn quick too, if I go during lunch even.

Good with olive oil and basalm vinegar or blue cheese sauce though. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

They are in season in California's San Joaquin Valley---so much in season the big brutes are all shagged out.

Asparagus that is grown local (where I live) is shipped out around the globe... I understand that its been exported to Paris, Germany and that it was even served at Queen Elizabeth's spring feast. "Hadley Asparagus" is world famous...

Am I missing something here? Does it get you high, drunk, turn you into a sexual tyrannosaurus? As far as I know I've never eaten it. Please explain.

I will probably not eat it again after seeing a tv show where they mentioned that half of the populations urine stinks after eating it. The problem is that just that half of the poplation can't detect that particular smell i.e. if your pee stinks you won't know it (if I remember correctly).

You mean if you eat asparagus - then half the earth's population's urine stinks?! I wonder what raaaid would have to say about that? http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/shady.gif

Actually you are supposed to snap them about 2/3 of the way down - they should break where the 'woody' bit ends.

Also they are much better roasted than steamed - just give them a little sprinkle of olive oil and pop them in the oven - delicious! http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

I love cooking - maybe we could have a recipes forum here instead of Pacific Fighters http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

Blanch them a bit, toss them with melted butter, season with salt, pepper and a smidgen of red pepper. Place in a baking dish and sprinkle on some parmesan cheese. Bake at 350 deg for 10 to 15 minutes and one minute under the broiler to brown the cheese. Enjoy the stinky pee!!

mmmmmm...asparagus = teh good.

Roasted with some olive oil and fresh garlic then sprinkle with either some french grey sea salt or some plain ol' kosher and you've got a dish that will complement the best pepper-crusted filet mignon or slow-roasted chicken breast stuffed with proschutto and fontina cheese.

I love to cook as well and it's one of the things my wife and I do all the time (ONE I said!).

Wiki article:

"Asparagus and urine

Marcel Proust claimed that asparagus "...transforms my chamber-pot into a flask of perfume."

Some of the constituents of asparagus are metabolized and excreted in the urine, giving it a distinctive smell. This is due to various sulfur-containing degradation products (e.g. thiols and thioesters) and ammonia. Recent studies suggest that every individual produces the odorous compounds upon eating, but that only about 40% of individuals have the genes required to smell them.[10][11] The speed of onset of urine smell is rapid, and has been estimated to occur within 15-30 minutes from ingestion.[12]"

At the risk of bringing a dying thread back to life, we just roasted some in butter,... not bad, but I prefer steamed with butter and Johnys seasoning salt. http://media.ubi.com/us/forum_images/gf-glomp.gif
