View Full Version : Come on, Oleg, get real......

Took a P-40 up last night for a short run against a bomber. After I shot down the bomber, I decided to make a test emergency landing in an open field. I picked a flat looking spot and flew her in and made a wheels-down soft landing. I went to an outside view to admire my work, and as I was zooming out, the tailwheel slowly turned, and the plane bgan to slowly drift backwards! I was on a slight upgrade. I was amazed at the accuracy. I applied the brakes and the plane stopped. I released the brakes and the plane sarted slowly rolling again!
Oleg, I don't know what the programming for this sim was done, but, man, does it work great! Such detail! Such reality! Unbelievable! Thought it was extremely cool.... I don't know of ANY games out there with that level of realism.
Well done Oleg and team.

Amazing isnt it?

Your aircraft will also travel backwards when you fire the guns while sitting on the pavement.
One of the many little things that make this sim a gem!

Yeah, me too... I thought it would be strange seeing Richard I making a troll post which is something I have never seen him do before, but nevertheless I thought it might be a troll.

A cool post indeed! /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

I agree. When most bugs are killed and maybe some options added, we might easily have a sim of a decade ready.

I stated it could be one of you two because when I first accessed this thread it didn't happen, then I access after you two had posted, so, I figured it could have been one of you.

Now I dont take accusations like that kindly. As a matter of fact Im kind of insulted. I didnt know jpg's can be viruses =/

About my signature, Hannah.jpg -
Its a picture of Hannah something(guess thats close to hahaha.jpg for someone that cant read.) that was a female test pilot in germany during WWII.
What gets to me is that I cant find a free site to host the picture and allow remote linking, plus Im too young an too poor to buy space on the web.
SO Ive been reduced to starting my own pathetic 56k FTP to host a damn picture.
Hah, all is well though and Im not upset. Ignorant people only insult me with their ignorance.

Forgive me if I seem a little harsh. Ive been playing halflife for the past few years and when I kill people I get accused of hacking/cheating because of my high ping.

No disagreement here about how fantastic the attention to detail is in the game. I do wish somebody would explain to me why my P-40 explodes between 500 and 600kph, though. Most frustrating in a campaign.

XyZspineZyX

The P40 explodes becuase you have over-reved the engine and I think the explosion is a symptom of the engine coming apart at high speed, towing a shedload of kinetic energy.

Not to worry though. The patch is meant to fix it/i/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

Neat.

But, if you landed in a grassy field, the earth would not usually be hard enough to support a 7,000-8000lb a/c. Between the wheels slightly digging in and the friction of the longish grass, you slight incline was a wee bit more that 'slight'.

Another inconsistance in FB this is. One can get bogged down on the airfield very easily, yet an a/c will roll backwards on some tundra.

I just thought it was cool that's all. Like the prop slowly spinning in the wind, and the plane backing up when you fire the guns. Somebody has put a hell of a lot of effort and thinking into this game. Is it all 100% correct? Who cares. The intent is what impresses me.

Rich that is precisely the reason why I get so miffed when people start to rag Oleg the way they do. I know he's a grown man and can defend himself..but it just pi$$es me off that peo0ple can be SO dispespectful and down right rude...when we have such a work of art. When you flip over into your dive..check out the prop as you pick up speed..... amazing detail. Certainly undeserving of some of the stuff we get in here and ORR daily.

Estare you got a fault in your signature picture image tag. That's what's causing the attempt to have people download that file, hannah.jpg.
<-img src="ftp://63.155.184.44/hannah.jpg"->
change the "ftp" to "http".
ftp = file transfer protocol and can't be used in this way.

And this could just as well have been someone trying out some nice javascript, thanks to this javascript friendly board, which is, in my opinion, not a good thing.

Hey, I've attained 750 km/h in a P-40!

You should get your prop-pitch at 90% and try to keep the RPM's in hand with your throttle.

I've surprised quite some folks online who didn't think that P-40's could dive at such speeds /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

Yea..I admit I love this game..just sad that while on that grassy hill my Jug bounces like an Eight-Ton Superball. However unlike M$ we here in the IL2 community have faith that Oleg will weed out such imperfections. He's just that kind of guy.

Back to the original post - I stacked a landing the other day and ripped a wing off. With the aircraft stationary on the ground with only one wing, firing the guns made the thing bounce around in an arc, pivoting on the broken wing.

Fantastic.

Platypus is right. I've managed to get the P40 up to 640 km/h in a dive and actually managed to outdive a G2. As Platypus said the "dive bug" has something to do with RPM.

Dive bug is real--on critical speeds between 520 and 560 the airplane starts shaking, and most pilots either continue in a slight dive (and explode), or try to maintain that speed (and explode). The answer is--increase the dive dramatically! When you reach about 600 P-40 just stops shaking and you can push it all the way you want (some guy said even 1000 or smt, I flew it to 800). Once I got back to 560-580, the thing started shaking again, I slowed down quickly and continued flying. Analyzing this I came to the conclusion that the first theory of how this cockup happened (that someone in Oleg's team actually put the "structural failure threshold" on 520 km/h and not on 520 kt as it should have been) was right. No complicated explanations required. Shouldn't be too hard to fix.

Otherwise, yes, this sim continues to amaze me with its level of detail, that's why I don't play anything else...

strange, even with the engine completely off and prop pitch at 0 it blows up at 520-600, its not consistant gunna be fixed anyways. nice tracks btw

It has N O T H I N G to do with RPM or engine. Just don't push the stick at those explosive speeds around 550km/h IAS. Pull a bit and it works fine.

Free patch would be great, Pay to own the addon still be good.

But tempting people's expectation with Ignorance which is bad. Look at the Development Updates within IL2's official site. What I liked about 1C's was in good old il2 style, with 100% work with 0% useless announcement.

Maybe I am wrong, but after all that I am feeling tired to check out whatsoever is fact anymore for the development or may call The Sales Game. It is time, should the UBI salesman staff now be aware where they start losing their game...
