OK i was having a massive drop down in FPS + it wasnt stable any more

here is hte way to get back your FPS

STEP 1----go in conf.ini file and set the
Effects=0
it look like this is the reazon for
the massive drop off FPS

STEP 2----IF U WANT MORE -FPS- go to
conf.ini file and set
TypeClouds=0 (its located in -
hotkey game)and if u dont see it u
have to add it in

set it in 0 (Effects=0) and take a ride to see if u got problem any more

Setting "ForceShaders1x=1" in the conf has improved my fps considerably (9800 Pro) especially with the new clouds & mirros on.

I have a 9800, what is the visual impact of setting the forceshaders line that way?

Typeclouds is set server side now if it is TypeClouds=1 then you will get that no matter what.

You want to be carful which cards you use the forceshaders on, my 9550 went to a wierd 1-3fps when I turned this on, even in other games, I had to restart the computer to turn it off.

Monson74, what drivers are you running on your card? I took the new patch for a quick ride yesterday and the hit was pretty bad in a thunderstorm weather setting, but otherwise the drop was minimal.

I'm running with the new 5.6 official. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

Yeah, I'm running the CAT 5.6 as well. I guess I just need to turn the new clouds off for my little old 9700 (non-pro)

effects 0 removes shadows under flak bursts,explosions,etc same effects as 1 just no shadows

Ah. It's interesting that I can see the shadows of smoek clouds from very far away, but not the smoke itself. Seems like it would make more sense if that was opposite.

Turning the clouds off made a huge impact to performance for me. I'm back to my old (even higher) fps now. 80-100 offline, 60-80 online.

P4 2.6 @ 3.0X
512MB Dual Channel GEIL PC3200
ATI Radeon 9700 w/ CAT 5.6
120GB SATA game drive
Audigy 2 ZS
Other stuff...

john_bilbrey, I have the same 9700 non-pro and am doing fine with the new clouds.

Have you tried the latency tool that you can get from 3dguru.com and the Java runtime 1.5.3 that you can get here:

http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.5.0/download.jsp

These two really tuned up my rig.

There's also a utility program that was designed for the MS flight simulator that shuts down background stuff. I'll post the site when I get home. I'm supposed to be working right now.

Here you go:

http://www.kensalter.com/fsautostart/

It seems to be based on the stuff on blackvipers site, and there are a few things that it says you can shut down that you are better off leaving alone.

But with my earlier suggestions and this one, my old dog of a P2.4 ATI 9700 non-pro with 1 gig of rdram is handling the new patch quite well. They have basically bought me 1-2 years before I'll have to upgrade in a big way.
