Make sure you are patched up to 4.08.Then d/l and install the HyperLobby client. That is where most people fly.

HyperLobby client is at http://www.hyperfighter.sk

Chris. I do believe you have the option to play online when you select IL2 from the programs list in Windows. I'm thinking of trying my hand at playing online also as a change of pace.

I currently play Aces High and I too would like some info on:

Do we need Teamspeak? Or does the majority of the IL2 Community use something else.

Also since I've not played online using text to communicate I don't know how.

Anything else we might want to know before getting online that would be of help?

Most people use Teamspeak for voice and Hyperlobby to play online.

Hmmm... after 2 years online & thousands of virtual lives poorer & only a handful of bogies shot down I can _still_ say it's tremendous fun with a good bunch of co-belligerents http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif

That said no-one counted ground kills so far, and as a bomber jock I've managed to rack up a bit of those as well http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

Just do it. It's fun and simple. Follow Troll2K's instructions and you're all set. S!

PS. Did I talk about tonight yet? Well not yet actually... we'll sort that out tomorrow if it's all the same to you http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Hey guys and welcome to the fun http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif Flying with teamspeak is MUCH better than flying with only chat! Once you get hyperlobby installed be sure and check out the 334TH server - lots of action and a really great bunch of guys. Check out our squad website here: 334th Eagle Squadron (http://www.334theaglesquadron.com/portal/)
Flying online is a much different experience than flying offline - RL pilots are WAY better than AI and not nearly as predictable. Just keep your eyes open, learn from the successful guys, don't vulch (in the 334th you CAN strafe with guns if you are in a bomber - in some servers you can't. But in ALL servers firing at aircraft at their home base or immediatly prior to landing or taking off will get you booted), don't kill guys flying on your side (it happens occasionally and unintentionally - just a quick apology and its usually all good), and most important of all accept that there is a learning curve and be persistent.

Some of the guys online are putting in 10-20 hours a week or more and are amazing pilots with incredible skills. Don't quit if you get taken down a lot - learn from your mistakes and soon you'll be the ace!
