I have seen this before a while back. It is still priceless. Maybe a coincidence but I get similar calls from a satellite TV company in Denver. Ever time I tell them I am not interested they hang up on me and call back a week later. Maybe I should try this.

They always make the mistake of asking if they are bothering me...

...I tell them!

In the novel CATCH-22, Yossarian decided to get letter-writing back home out of the way (he was in a MTO B-25 squadron), so he wrote everybody that he was volunteering for a dangerous mission and, if they did not hear from him, they should assume he was dead. I've used varieties of this story on tiresome people for years.

Man, if that really worked for me. At least with telemarketers.
But thx for reminding me to find the DVD to collection. The scene in B-25 nose section is hilarious, Yossarian(?) calling for fire onboard due lotsa smoke but it is actually pipe smoking guy next to him. And other gags. Recommended for everyone, if you want see a take off secene that was raising hair of those real B25 owners year 1970.
Back to headlines, in Finland you have to record yourself to a 'blacklist' for one telemarketer at a time, bureaucracy takes 3 weeks; I believe in Sweden for example, you can simple tell all entrepreneurs under official union to stop at once.
I still have no understanding to the fact that those people are allowed to keep calling and messaging and actually really bothering people, it already sounds almost unconstitutional http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-mad.gif

Was that guy some British relation to Gunnery Seargent Hartman from Full Metal Jacket?
He sure as hell sounds like him and if I had been the guy calling I probably would have just replied with Sir Yes Sir.

Don't poke fun or get angry at the callers. The telemarker employees are a result of outsourcing Ussian manufacturing jobs overseas. So, when the TeleMarks call me, I ask them questions and find out about them, where they call from (usually a Ussian Mid-West state that has lost jobs to overeas), the weather, hours of work, trade a bit of general information. Generally, they seem to enjoy the exchange, although they never get to sell me anything. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif Its always kinda neat talking to people so far away, and, the call is FREE (they call me). I never buy the stuff their employers are contracted to try to sell -- you see the point.

Here in California they are not supposed to call unless you solicited the call---so they call you and pretend you called them first: "Hello, Mr. ----, we are responding to your call regarding Edwards' Dried River Rat Lawn Treatments." I just use the answering service as a call screener---every time I answer a call it is a cursed telemarketer.

The film CATCH-22 has some great moments, boxmike!

I played this while online yesterday. the guys musta wondered what was up with me cos I had to do everything not to burst out laughing over the air waves!

I love the way the guy keeps up the pretence and has the telemarker completely off balance until the end.

We get these annoying phone calls here in the UK too. I might try ... http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Seafire, in England you can can ring a number to stop all Telemarketing calls.

Look for it in your BT directory.

We used to get about 3 or 4 every day, now we get none at all.

I just tell the telemarketer that I'm not the resident of this house, I'm a serial killer and there's blood everywhere but I managed to get all the pieces of the home owner into the refrigerator. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/mockface.gif

Even though I am on the "do not call" list, I will still get calls at night. Usually around 7:00- 8:00 P.M. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/51.gif After the solicitor begins to get into their spiel, I will interrupt with some dialog from "Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels".

"Excuse me Sir/Maa'm, are you the customer that ordered the A-- Blaster? Our latest and greatest technological terror in r-ctal intrusion?" If the unsolicited caller manages to stay on the line, and say "w-w-what? uh, nooo." I will the say "Then don't waste my time with prank calls, then!" and promptly hang up. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/59.gif

I know a girl who has a job as a telemarketer. She wants to get out, because very often people are rude to her. Appearantlu, it isn't a fun job. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/sadeyes.gif http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-surprised.gif So, when they phone me, I always stay polite. Knowing they are also hard working people that are trying to make a living.

What can I say, I'm a nice guy? I even stay polite with Jehova witnesses. (is that the proper word?) Appearantly, they get assigned to a certain neigboorhood. 'My' Jehova's are two lovely blond ladies http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/clap.gif http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/crackwhip.gif
