As a kid I saw a movie about a British squadron in France during WW1. Can't remember the name of the movie. Like to see it again someday. Perhaps somebody knows it:

It starts with a joung lad jumping of a truck as he arrives near a squadron building. Inside he sees the pilots who dont look to happy. Empty chairs in the mess. Expectancy for survival is verry low. He isn't welcomed with open arms. During the duration of the movie the youngster survives multiple missions as others fall. At one point he fly's a mission in a two seater with the man in the back holding a camera to make pictures. After landing he notices the man in the back is dead (father of the Sqn Co I believe). Shot by bullets of some attacking german plane.
In the end of the movie there is a big dogfight in which he is the only one who survives of the squadron.
Movie has to be at least 25 years old. Any clue's?
