View Full Version : UBRS and the missing "download" link

I have been trying to get some downloads from UBRS and for some reason the "download" link is missing from the files I want to download. Has anyone else had trouble with this?

All I see is links to adverts etc and not the link to download, and yes I am registered and correctly signed in.

Goose I went and took a look and when you sign in to UBRS DLC this comes up

short briefing for the DLC:

As UNREGISTERED user you may browse the archive, but you may not download.

As REGISTERED user you may browse the archive and download currently 0 files from UBRS DLC PER DAY. File availability depends on a mixed calculation of the site\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\'s ad revenues of the last days.

NOTE: DLC registration is separate from UBRS!

the important bit seems to be this

File availability depends on a mixed calculation of the site\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\'s ad revenues of the last days.

So to me it looks like if the ads on the site dont get enough views/revenue per day from the users you cannot d/l any thing..
what are you looking for maybe we can find alternate sources.

I've given up on that site. I registered so that I could get downloads but never received the registration email, so I can't complete my registration and download anything. I sent an email to guy who runs the site to ask for help, and never got a reply http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_frown.gif

I don't know if this is your problem or not, but I remember reading in here some time ago that you basically have to log-in TWICE at UBRS. The first log-in gets you onto the site's areas and then, in order to download anything, you have to log-in a SECOND time in the Download section.

I did it and for a while seems to be succesful, but when i try to login into the DLC section, i obtain a error message like "Your account is not already activated".
Im very sad because UBRS was one of the best download sites

"Was" being the key word, unfortunate to because that sites repository was vast.
In a way I can understand the need for it's webbie to try and generate some income to cover the overhead. I currently run 2 sites and while they get hits the way they are set up I can still cover the cost. I used to run an IRC hub/services. Try eating 80$ or more a month in overhead, it adds up right quick Im here to say. All Im saying is there is a cost to what we see as being free downloads - free services, I consider obtaining them somewhat of a privilage yet it occurs to me many others simply leech, no offence ment. And donations are nothing steady that a webmaster can depend on. The most disgusting thing I have found is far to often pornograpy even soft porn is used for advertisement. Advertisements ment for adults seen by mere children at times simply looking for free mods. But, that is another off topic thing. At the end of the month the bill still has to be paid, somewhere, by someone.

Anyhow like Grymmjakk said perhaps there is an alternate d/l for what Goose_Green seeks.
On the community manual there is a link for fan's filefront sites and a few other sources, you can look there.

UBRS used to be the no1 site for me, a real pity that it seems neglected these days, oh well.

What has happened imo is a case of Webmaster-burnout. Writting was on the wall.

For the rest of it's life UBRS DLC won't have any restrictions - even unregistered users may download as much as they want.

Because you (most of the ppl inhere) decided to drop the support for the DLC quite awhile ago I decided to stop any work in the site.

As I'm not willing to invest unpaid 30 hours per week AND to pay the bandwith bills the site will be gone soon.

Do what you can best - download until the cable is melting!

And I'm out here, too.

Now I can't speak for him and I don't know where this will take that site but I understand where he is comming from.
You know what the real shame is, if that site does close, down the road you can bet real money some snot nose liberal will complain that it's gone and act like they are the damaged party.
