With only their .45 caliber pistols,Lt.s Francies and Martin in their L-4B Piper Cub shoot down a Fieseler Fi-156 Storch and record THE FINAL AIR-TO-AIR SHOTS BETWEEN AMERICANS AND GERMANS IN WWII.The occupants of the Storch were subsequently captured. Sorta anti-climactic,isn't it? Still cool, nonetheless. To me it's a little ironic that the last German/American air-combat in the biggest war in history ended using early WWI tactics.

Here's a depiction by Burt Mader:

Hehe...Cubs are uber./i/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif I didn't know about this story until I ran across Mr.Mader's painting. I just find it very fascinating. I might buy it,but it's a little expensive for me(a college student).

If I remember correctly, they fired some shots and the Storch surrendered and landed.

what about the Storch intercepted by a Mustang near Paris? the recce bird started flying low and slow, following the city roads and turning between the buildings, the Mustang was too fast and despite several strafing passes he eventaully ran out of ammo and had to leave the Storch unscathed!

What about the *first* "kill" ever?

It was in WW1, of course, and as far as I remember, some insane Baron von Something delibaretely smashed his two-seater into some other two-seater, trying to bring it down. The end result was the first and second "kills" ever in the history of air "combat".

Hehe...maybe the Russians liked the idea so much they adopted it and called it the Taran!/i/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif Anyway, I'm not sure about the specifics of the story, but I too, find it hard to believe a Colt 45 brought down the Storch. However, it was certainly possible...

Yep Colt can kill tigers,I saw the movie too, What a movie! Still laughing HAHAHAHA, fire youre Colt at the way he did and the bullets end up in you're own body (armoured glass!!) This thing was a T34 not a tiger. Place some explosives on the roadwheels of a tank and the tracks break, but the roadwheel is still intact!!! HAHAHAHAHAHA what a BS
